Save the environment, save the beaches and save the landfills. That's what this is all about, some nut spearheaded this movement and plastic is the culprit. The stores had no problem with this so stick it to the consumer. Now let's see what type of support the stores get from the consumer when they go on strike.

They wont. Their populace isn't a bunch of sheep, like the morons who allow this in Long Beach.

In Europe, I've seen grocery stores that charge a nominal fee for plastic bags. Also seen a rise in popularity in biodegradable bags at farmers' markets.

Why should the fat-cat Orange County people be denied their RIGHT to pay harassing "anti consumer" Lowenthal grocery bag taxes just like overtaxed and underrepresented Long Beachers? California has more congressional representatives than any other State. Why don't the politicians in our influential California delegation invoke the 14th Amendment at the FEDERAL level to enable everyone to "pay their fair share, as Obama would put it.

Plastic bags at grocery stores in Europe are basically a thing of the past and as Bob said they charge E0.10 each so people figured out pretty much straight away to use other options - just start charging - the problem will go away automatically.....

That may be true. Since the Government invaded the European continent and put its' nations under revolutionary Government influence, failed post 60s 70s era economic programs have not been confined to our own shores. We should, though, have a better understanding of what we are talking about.

If the problem is the result of the failure of post 60s 70s era revolutionary social and economic programs, that is one thing. After all, oil is a necessary component in the manufacture of shopper friendly plastic grocery bags.

On the other hand, revolutionary politicians tell us that Lowenthal grocery bag taxes are necessary because a few of our finny friends might ingest plastic bags and die - this despite the fact that hundreds of millions tons of aquatic life are taken from the sea, butchered, and then eaten by those of the same ilk.

It is important for us to make this distinction. It is a question we should ponder as our Chinese creditors flick ashes from expensive cigars into our faces, as they drive past in their large gasoline guzzling automobiles.
