Why reservations? I reckon they should hurry up and get ride of the discriminatory laws against women, and make harsher penalties for violence against women.

So I'd think you're very much Knowledgeable about the United Nations women's rights declaration.
You would agree with me that tonga does nothing to allow women to have the same opportunities and rights as a man.
For example,In the past, if a woman marries a foreigner she automatically loses her citizenship, and her children will not have any claim over Tongan Citizenship
but to this day, if Tongan man marries a foreigner, he remains as a citizen and his children have rights to claim citizenship in Tonga.
So we all know that approximately 2 years ago our lousy king, altered the law to allow Tongan women to regain their citizenship.
Of course there is a catch and a price
for a woman to regain her citizenship, she has to go under extensive medical examination including an x-ray
last year must pay an application fee of $500 US,
all the things that a man doesn't have to do
of course, I am waiting for the psychotic bootlickers, to come out of the cupboard, and defend the situation.
They might even deny it.
The above is actually the truth
that's why the Parliament will not change the laws regarding equality of women because they don't want to give equality. And unfortunately they want to maintain their paternal society.
It strange that its a woman Cabinet minister, who is fighting against equality for women
who would believe that?
Only in Tonga.
they own see the obvious advantages of handing out citizenship to say like the Irish or the Germans, they can sell passports to foreign citizens, and eventually the children of these expats will return as tourists, spending money with their cousins and grandparents.
our stupid lawmakers don't see the obvious
goodnight and good luck

Hellow Mrs/Miss Boruone,Tonga did review this Bill and used their best decision which end up to review it again.I think this little group of women just stand up and asked the Govt to pass this bill. They never done any consultation with the people on tv,radio,or out with the community to get a huge support .People do not unterstand what this issue is about.I think this is one of the weakness.Their is a lack of understand due to lack of direct communication.Ihope this will help to pas your bill.

You must admit that it would be very simple to equalise the rights and privileges of both men and women in our country. It would simply say that men can access and do women should be allowed to do the same.
Very simple
but our government is as sincere as a can of spaghetti
that's why we have no justice in our country
that's why these criminals butthat wrap themselves in the purple of royalty should be hung from every coconut tree in our country. Sooner the better

what does same sex marriage have to do with CEDAW???
tonga's constitution and law doesn't allow women to own land or have inheritance rights...that discriminatory law needs to be eliminated.

true, all reasons for disallowing women to own land etc is fundamentally and thoroughly flawed, only thing it is not flawed in is being prejudice. This ain't bloody medieval Europe, we should hurry up and let women own land..
I think the prohibition of the sale of land is dumb too, but that's a whole other discussion. Women owning land is a human right. Period.

Is it wonderfully politically correct that there have got a female Cabinet Minister arguing against female equality
after all like I said before, it would be very easy to pass a law to say that on all occasions what a man can do a female can do
that would be the end of the argument, period
