It was at the end of the article. Everyone is complaining about the type of bisinessman Hoover is but not Fiore. All he will do is try to make himself rich while avoiding all the rules. I know an electrician he tried to bribe to work without a permit. He's been fined for asbestos buried on one of his construction sites. Fined for filling in wetlands near his home in Leominster so he would have a private beach. Does this sound like someone who should be allowed to operate a business here? Especially one involving trash and other waste. In fact INS should check on the status of some of his workers.<quoted text>
Somehow I don't see the correlation to this story...could you enlighten all of us???

Fitchburg Resident 2: I would like to answer a few questions for you. Having lived in Fitchburg in the 1980s, and the last 6 years (moved just this year), Fitchburg is a mecca for the homeless, where people are working for peanuts, and the homeless come to Fitchburg. For one thing, one homeless shelter, basically gives the people they serve 3 months to get their act together, and then they have to move. However in the City of Fitchburg, it is basically a revolving door process, however people don't want the halfway houses, anymore than they want the homeless shelters.
The people with the money in the city, the will give money to the shelters, but only in amounts to keep them small, thus the reason why you find people under bridges, and in tents along the old rail bed beyond the Halloween Place.
As for the Social Service offices. Any city that has a decent idea for commerce or business, knows that stores bring people, people leave money, and tax dollars come in. However with a State Welfare Office in one building, Monachusett Opportunity Council in another, and Our Father's Table in another (in fairly close succession to each other), you basically have a Main Street with people on welfare mixing in with people going to the bars, and a bunch of restaurants that aren't bad, but really don't bring people to Main Street.
I am not bashing the poor people, as I was one, but am working my way out. What I can say as I knew people that were, there is ALOT of desperation in Fitchburg, but no one now (or then)is/was taking action, either politically, or those receiving such assistance. When people have to travel well outside of Fitchburg, to make decent money, not everyone can do that. But also, I can also say, that there are people who screw the welfare system too...which I can understand where "Not Impressed" comes from..
The ONLY way Main Street can be revitalized, is that those social service offices NEED TO MOVE somewhere else. Otherwise, you only get what you have now. Also to bring the idea that Fitchburg is the Mecca for homeless people would also be a good way to revitalize Fitchburg as a whole.

Sorry about that! I looked into the article (I read quickly...and yes I'm human), I have to AGREE with you. Memory serves me right, didn't Fiore get into some trouble with the cops a few years back due to a fight (As seen in the Sentinel a year or two ago??)
But it also doesn't surprise me that they would allow him to do business in Fitchburg. With the ol' boy network that Fitchburg has, does it surprise any one that such people can do business?
However, come January, 2008 there is a new wind coming to Fitchburg to sweep the ol'boy network away...

Mr. Farnsworth, As for the comment, "McMansion", it's really too bad that you are reveiling your jealousy to Walter Fiore's success. It really has nothing to do with the issue being discussed, although I am sure that you felt better getting that comment off of your chest. As for the criminal accusations regarding the machete, if you bothered to follow-up on that case, you might have seen posted in the Telegram & Gazette, on Wednesday, February 15, 2006,(courthouse records),at the Worcester Central District Court: Walter A. Fiore, of Leominster, charged with assault and battery, and disorderly conduct, found NOT GUILTY ! Again, your personal comments have really drawn you away from the real issues. It's really too bad that grown adults focus mainly on battering comments rather than focusing on the positive contributions (many) that many of our local bussinessmen have provided to our society.

No.1 Who's the electrician?(not a fact) No. 2 The asbestos was proven that it was there from the prior owner of the property, again, not from him. No. 3 the beach, only trying to create what all the other neighbors had (not to mention the cleanup of of tires, and debris from years of collection from all over the pond). What do these comments have to do with the issue discussed, anyway. Jealosy I guess!

I urge all of you to look into his facility! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how WONDERFUL it has become. The transformation is amazing. He should be commerated ! Ask any of the neighbors, they are all elated with the work. The facility is GREAT for Fitchburg. Lets start talking about the positives, lets not throw stones so-to-speak.(isn't it easy to do , jealousy is a lousy illness)

Or maybe Mr. Hoover is "above the law". Oh, he does not live in a McMansion,he resides on Merriam Ave in the Former Whitney Mansion. The front porch looks unusual, with large figurines all on display, no doubt overstock from his store in Fitchburg.
