Hoover is a con artist supreme. And he has had several drunk driving convictions, yet he's still on the road.

Wow, what's with this Hoover person? Frankly I can't see a fast food resturant and a "night club" right across from a strip joint either.

Yet again, the stupidity of Fitchburg Government is seen clearly. For some reason, they allow to hear about a plan for a fast food restaurant and nightclub in a blighted wasteland of an area, coming into the city of Fitchburg. Furthermore, to have a nightclub, across the street from a strip club, where a waitress was seen by a State Trooper having sex in the parking lot with a patron.

Yet, the ZBA acts like the City of Fitchburg is a "dry city." It doesn't take a rocket scientist, nor a near idiot to figure out, that Fitchburg DOES NOT need any further drinking establishments. Those places that have been serving people, having been spots that have helped create a city of "angry drunks."

Remember the night club on Putnam Street, that had the fight a year ago, with over 100 people fighting outside? It is bad enough that Fitchburg has a strip club, it doesn't need anymore "watering holes." Considering the man who has run the Halloween Place, and his seemlier past, when is City Government in Fitchburg going to wake up?

Yet Hoover wants a "Classy upscale" dance club. Isn't that what they said about the "Other Side" strip club? Basically a haunt for sex fiend in Fitchburg?

Councilor Clark, it isn't the abandoned cars that is the problem, it is the location, and the uneeded reasoning for another watering hole in Fitchburg. Use your brains for once?!?

Maybe the ZBA and the City Council should come to their senses, and realize, that more watering holes in Fitchburg lead to more prostitution, drugs, homelessness. If they cannot figure that out....it is time for a recall election for each person, and time for Lisa Wong to clean house in the ZBA, for the sake of Fitchburg.

As Ben said, Hoover is a seasoned con artist/professional scammer. The place is a total dump and has numerous unregistered junk vehicles right out in front. It is just a lovely setting right at a “major gateway into the city" and across the street from a total dive strip bar. I am AMAZED that the Zoning Board is even considering it.
"I've already improved the area tremendously," Hoover said about the site.
He is more delusional than I thought if he really believes that. On top of that, he first says he wants to open a “classy upscale club” but now wants to open a fast food place until he can get the club running. He wouldn’t know classy if it bit him on the butt.

Here we go again...Rediculous even considering the idea Board Members! Focus on Fitchburg the right way, not the easy way. All this would do is temporarily redirect revenue...it's certainly not going to create new revenue and commerce for the city. Fitchburg already has 2 McD's, BK, Wendy's, etc...all in one area on John Fitch. Why would anyone go to that part of town for a burger? Classic Car show? I'd much rather drive my Classic Car to a well established Hotel like the Sheraton any day. Didn't this guy owe Fitchburg Back Taxes awhile back? Why do the delinquents of the world get all the access in the world to become more delinquent?

Everyone is overlooking the end of the story. Walter Fiore getting permits. He's been fined several times by the DEP yet the city lets him continue as well. If anyone looked into his facility I wouldn't be surprised to find he's sorting trash from his dumpster service there. It seems he can BUY any permit he wants regardless of his history.

"...more watering holes in Fitchburg lead to more prostitution, drugs, homelessness. "

More than "watering holes", the countless halfway house/soup kitchen/social service offices and programs in Fitchburg lead to prostitution, homelessness, and drugs in our city. These programs, while their intent is noble, generally attract the impoverished, the substance abusers, the ex-cons.(This is fact, not opinion.) Most of the bars in the area are full of college students, bikers, and older women looking for validation in sexual escapades with younger men.(With the exception of that cess pool on Putnam street you mentioned.)

I say you let the guy do what he wants on that site. As long as that miserable strip joint is across the street, you could hardly do any worse.

Yep, that's EXACTLY the kind of growth Fitchburg needs! Sure makes me feel happy to see all those people lose their property on Rt. 12 to benefit more seethy dives further down the road. I feel badly for the residents of that area..trapped there because they have no income to go elsewhere, subjected to a desperate atmosphere..Its certainly not the Dr.'s and Lawyers dropping their dollars across the street!

There is no way I would be trekking to any 'upscale establishment' right across the street from a mini combat zone.

NOT IMPRESSED: You left out one area. I remember that the news paper had a list of sex offenders in the city. Over 35 of them. Where do you think they can go to get their fix? The Other Side, and the dump next to Dippin' Doughnuts.

If they say they are keeping them out, that is a bunch of BS. Besides, it is nothing more than a breeding ground for more perverts. Also, last year a passing State Trooper saw a waitress having oral sex in the parking lot of the "Other Side". Where was city government then? Wasn't that a breach of their license?

As for the situation pertaining to poverty, you'd better hold on as things are getting worse in Fitchburg? Granted, Main Street is a lousy place for those offices, and they should be moved elsewhere in the city. Granted, Methodone clinics are a bad idea, and breed even more drug use, and that point has been proved over and over again.

However the poor in the city IS not the problem. The problem is that a city government puts more drinking establishments, and other business that cause more lawlessness. That is stupid.

City government should know better, or be forced out of office.

Well, maybe where you came from, the government threw you into jail for questioning government.

Also where you came from, your government allowed all sorts of things that cause community decay, such as strip clubs, drug dealing, etc.

Now, I am not against you or where you came from, but where ever you came from, from a decency standpoint...it becomes certain, that if you think that strip joints, and more bars in a city with a large problem with angry drunken people, drug abuse, and prostitution is ok, then I think you need to have your head examined.

Fitchburg has enough decaying characteristics, it doesn't need any more!

Marie, you are correct, however one has to wonder though, how the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) in Fitchburg can rationalize such a request.

This area of Water Street hasn't looked functional since Grossman's was there (where the Halloween Place is..) But to put another drinking establishment in a city that has enough drunken, high, and perverted individuals...doesn't make too much sense in revitalizing Fitchburg.

If someone can prove me otherwise...please reply!

If there are countless "halfway houses" (they are now called homeless SHELTERS by the way) then why are there so many homeless people still sleeping in freezing cold tempatures under the bridges. And god forbid, the unfortunate mentally ill or mentally retarded live in Fitchburg. You are a heartless person with no clue about how the majority of people end up needing the help of social service agencies. You better hope you never develop a mental illness that disables you to the point you lose your job, your house and your humility. You are a heartless person. Not the kind we need in Fitchburg.

Red Baron, moving the social service agencies from Main Street would be a huge loss to the property owners. At least the rents are being paid so that they can pay their taxes. If Main Street ever gets revitalized, maybe then the idea of moving such agencies to another part of town would make sense.

Hoover resides in Leominster, where I heard he has had problems also. Regarding Fiore, he's been in trouble in Leominster also, but he managed to get away with building code / DEP violations. He now lives in a "McMansion" in Leominster. He also has a police record also, one violation for waving a machette at a person a few years ago.

Because he has money, and the judges are all corrupt along with some people on the police force. Just pathetic.
