LETTER TO THE EDITOR: It's OK, they know the event's 'dopey'

There are 16 comments on the Public Opinion story from Feb 1, 2011, titled LETTER TO THE EDITOR: It's OK, they know the event's 'dopey'. In it, Public Opinion reports that:

Finally, Matt Major and I agree on something: He is getting dour and cranky in "steadily advancing middle age." If he doesn't see how silly the Groundhog Day spectacle is, perhaps it's time to for Matt to get a funnybone transplant.

Let it go, Pete! Enough already. You screwed up by slamming another community's event. Why? Feeble attempt at being humorous? Get a grip, Pete. You're obviously not as popular as you think with local people. Remember, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks. Put effort in getting the Hispanic Center to pay the back taxes owed.

Thanks, Pete, for triggering a completely worthless, fun, series of stories. Soon it will all be forgotten as we "spring" ahead.

This is our mayor? Is he twelve?

It doesn't matter what you think of the event in Punxsutawney, Mr. Mayor- it is a tradition. Silly traditions abound everywhere... a little more than a month ago countless people celebrated an old man breaking into people's homes to leave them presents. Traditions are what they are... whether meaningful or silly, they still have a place of honor.

Pete, you obviously are not getting along too well with the Public Opinion. Leave it alone. You are not going like gangbusters in the PR area. Follow the rule: "when you have dug yourself deep in the ground, stop digging."
Congrats

So true, Groundhog Day is an intentionally "dopey" celebration, now expanded to bring in the tourist bucks.

The letter is light, leave it like that.

What's sad are the morons that converse by soberly asking each other, "well, you know the groundhog saw his shadow the other day...". Which encompasses the defenders of Punxsy Phil, too.

BTW, the best story about the town of Punxsutawney I ever heard was about the town pump. But that was 30 or more years ago, and I'm sure she's moved.

P.S. That darn rodent is so scared when they pull him out he usually loses control, but, I guess that's tea to those "county commissioner types" up there in the top hats.

Hey Encore Channel on Comcast is running the movie "Groundhog Day" continuously all day. Actor Bill Murry as weather reporter Phil Collins starts out by calling groundhog Phil many worse names than Mayor Pete did. Then after numerous times repeating the same day over and over, weatherman Phil finds the true meaning to true happiness through the celebration of Groundhog Day.

The moral of this story is that Mayor Pete will only have to live this day over and over again for the next year until he finds happiness as a politician.

Way to go, Pete! Great letter. You did, however, forget to include the fact that the event in Punxatawney appears to be more of a reason for people (including, I might add, underage college students) to get drunk and make complete fools of themselves than to pay attention to what Phil sees or doesn't see.

How do you know they are college kids and not just people underage? Did you ask them for their student ID?

Do you have something against college students? Maybe it is because you are just a "Cashs Grad" and not a college grad...just a thought.
