On This Day: First Groundhog Day Celebrated

On Feb. 2, 1887, Punxsutawney, Pa., celebrated the first official Groundhog Day, a holiday with roots in ancient traditions.

oh no! we're only 1/2 way until spring??? i always thought of groundhog day as the BEGINNING of spring--shadow or no shadow. guess that's a bit overly optimistic.

But on a serious note, do people actually believe a ground hog can predict how long our winter will be. Isnt' that what the farmer's almanac is for.
