Gypsies critical of Invercargill

A group of about 60 gypsies say Invercargill is among the worst places in New Zealand for abuse after visiting the city over Easter weekend for the annual Gypsy Fair.

"A group of them told the Southland Times they had things thrown at them and were verbally abused during their weekend in Invercargill, as had been the case in past years. "This is the worst town in New Zealand . We dread coming here, it's that bad," fortune teller Helena Beissel said."

As had been the case in previous years...why the hell do they keep going there? And this girl's a fortune teller? Shit, you'd think they would certainly have seen it coming!

you have no idea about us and no we are not "DIRTY" our vehicles contain everything a house would. kitchen,beds, SHOWERS, hot water lounge. why do we go there because there are people who like us going there how ever we do cop abuse from some people ,why dont they jus stop doing it and leave us be, we do no harm. we have families and young children here

Sarah...I can sympathise with you if some people are giving you a hard time in certain places. But
seriously, if it really is a huge problem in a particular place, then either harden up, or perhaps choose another place where you can all meet up.

There's certain parts of Auckland where I don't feel comfortable and would probably get abused as well. I simply don't go there. Just like the restaurants or any other establishment where I'm not treated right..."last time I darken their doorstep".

Before you go off at me, I'm NOT condoning your detractors/abusers, or suggesting it is fair or just that you should have to put up with it. It just IS, and after so many years visiting there and experiencing the same treatment, you must be tiring of it. Surely you'd be more likely to enjoy your time in another locale....

Travelling doesn't necessarily make you a gypsy,much as going to hospital doesn't make you a surgeon!
Lucky you're in NZ and not europe,where "Gypsies" cop a lot more than mere abuse....and deserve it!

I am sure you will find that in most areas the number of people that like you going there is outweighed by the number that dislike you going there :)

Now do please enlighten me on this, how is a gypo able to access the internet ? A cyber savvy pikey kind of defeats the purpose no ?

Look you're talking about a place where Kevin Bloody Wilson can pack out five nights but Cirque De Solleil will never play there because well the name of the show, it's foreign, it would never crank their tractor. If the gypsies want a real fun weekend go park up in good old gay Gore....

Hey...I used to go through Gore years back and it was full of hoons in Valiants,Holdens etc, so things have changed? Then again,it was known as "Land of the twisted faces" so maybe things haven't altered all that much!
