It is sad that Halloween is on the decline in the neighborhood of the person who wrote this article. I don't know where they live but they should not judge the whole country based on their hometown alone. I was in central Florida for Halloween and we had over fifty trick-or-treaters (semi-rural area) this year, which was not bad. It is just as popular as ever down here (if not more so) in my opinion.

I also live in Central Florida, and this was the slowest year I've ever had for Halloween - only seven trick or treaters, and I'm used to seeing about 80 - 100. It most likely had a lot to do with that poor child being murdered up in Clay County the week before, and the economy isn't helping in the slightest. But it does seem over the years that Halloween, like Thanksgiving, is being shunted aside to make way for the spending orgy of Christmas. Retailers no longer want to acknowledge that there are several holidays between Labor Day and Christmas; it gets in the way of their year end profits. I wonder if they'd see an increase if they allowed people to enjoy the holidays as they come up, rather than cramming just the one down our throats.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Virgo

If the December sales are calling you, you'd better work out a budget before you leave the house. Otherwise, you'll be tempted to use your credit card first and only consider the cost of your purchase later on. Even so, you could track down some great bargains now, provided you don't get carried away and buy items that you don't really want simply because you're astonished by the amount of money you'll save in buying them. But you'll save even more money if you don't buy them!
