Torts: Softness will end, 'shut up and play'

Full story: Newsday

John Tortorella took over the Rangers on Feb. 25. We're less than five months in, and it's finally just about Tortorella's team.

I like it.
"Accountability" is such an underrated term in hockey. Every player needs to make sure they are doing their job as well as their teammates.

Kick some ass Torts!

“too much coffee!”

My friend said to me, "Torts looks mean!" I replied(having my own boss that is mean, yet dishonest) I Like
Torts! He demands honest, hard-working performance. I would far rather work for a mean boss who has my back when the fans and/or management are on me, than the dishonest boss who will throw me under bus to save his own hide, in a cowardly way. If John knows you are busting your butt and putting in a 100% honest effort, he will absolutly have your back. I say Amen to accountability. Torts Rocks! Wish i had a boss that thinks team 1st, management 2nd!

More like shut and and shill for Dolan and his teams in his paper by former beatwriter Arthur Staple.

This is two of these in a week, while Hahn is selling Lebron to the other Msg joke franchise but at least it's only relevant franchise.

Is this the same coach who said Avery is a disgrace who should not be in the league but when Dolan paid him to coach said whatever he was told?

Isn't accountability to report what's said all the time, guess Staple has to sign his name to whatever Dolan says to write.

Honest, hard-working. Sounds like Hockey's Different Here which was great for a laugh because it sure was spending 80 million to miss the playoffs every year.

Staple, Avery, Tortorella are laughing all the way to the bank.

"The time of trying to maneuver and whine behind people's backs is over," Tortorella told me this week. "Shut up and play."
That's a pretty bold statement on Tortorella's part. To whom is he referring? Just who does he feel did the whining and maneuvering and behind who's back? Renney's?
The chief culprits, Gomez and Nasland are gone. That leaves Drury. Was Tortorella addressing his comments to the worst Captain in Ranger history?
Inquiring minds want to know. Wait, that's another papers slogan...

Lenny, is that you?

If you had half a brain, you'd be curious as to why Torts would make a statement like this. What actually went on in the past? Who is left on the Rangers that might warrant Torts making this kind of statement? Three guesses.

Obviously, he's warning that person(s)not to try and pull the same crap on him that Renney suffered through. That's a vindication for Tom.

Four seasons in the playoffs and the second winningest coach in Ranger history is Renney's record. Let's see how long Torts lasts in the revolving door that is MSG.

Over the last 10 seasons, the Rangers have had the highest percentage of player/coaching personnel in the league.

And yet Sather still has his job...

the rangers would not have made the playoffs if renney had stayed as coach. time for you to get off that and stop blaming others for his failings. you still seem bitter over his firing.

I know Torts from Tampa and what he says is his reality...he took on the mighty Vinny L. and willed that team to a Cup...Ownership bailed on Feaster-Tortarella and stupidly let Khabibulin go; followed by Richards, Boyle and other key players...

You Torts haters can bag all you want, but you will see a different approach to player personnel and playing time if nothing else. You can only coach the horses you have and we still have too many nags...

"the rangers would not have made the playoffs if renney had stayed as coach. time for you to get off that and stop blaming others for his failings. you still seem bitter over his firing."

Lenny,

You can't know for sure that they wouldn't have made the playoffs.

Renney knew that team didn't have the legs or the wearwithall to play run and gun, offensive hockey.

He had them play defense first, low scoring game and had some success until the whining "maneuverers" tanked on him. They had been holding their own up until January.

Tortorella takes that same crew of players, gets a scorer in Antropov and a little help on D in Morris. Torts then tries to implement some run and gun. When the Rangers start to run out of gas at the end of the season and in the playoffs, he tempers his run and gun with some of Renney's more conservative, defense first play.

I'm not against Tortorella coming in and taking no shite from guys. I am just pissed that Sather is an ungrateful, spineless piece of shite who didn't back a good coach like Renney. Renney pulled Sather's nuts out of the fire by making the playoffs for him for 4 straight seasons.

Go ahead Lenny or Valley Stream or whatever name you are calling yourself tonight. You always have to have the last word.

mhurley - sather is a bad gm too. but that doesn't make your bf renney a good coach. wake up. he's gone and it's a beautiful thing.

if it makes you happy renney AND sather should have been fired. so one was. one down and one to go.

not lenny by the way. others see through your blind loyalty to renney besides lenny.

did you renew. i remember you saying you would not after tom got axed. are you a person of your word.

VS,

You are the one who is blind.

Renney's record speaks for itself. Second winningest coach in Ranger history. Dont' try and dispute those numbers. You can't.

End of story. Oh wait. Have the last word. Your kind always has to.

You can't really compare coaches today to coaches of the past in regards to records. Once hockey changed the rules to the idiotic "everyone gets a point" and wins in shootouts counting as much as a regulation win, then it becomes an unfair comparison.
