when will crosby and malkin be eligable for free agency. what teams do you think will sign them and how much money will they command against cap space? both of these players should eventually be able to command close to half of a team's cap space and make that team's chances of winning a cup nearly impossible.

Wow, that would be a great point, if you had the slightest idea what you're talking about. Either of them could have broken the Pens with their last contract signings exactly the way you describe, but they both took discounts to stay here and play together. And since Pittsburgh is generally agreed by players on to be the best place to play in the NHL, I don't see them being in a hurry to leave. Staal might have been tempted to jump ship, mostly for the opportunity to play 2nd-line C, but now he's getting that opportunity here.

Don't trouble your little head about the PP, either. Both of our new FA D signings are capable of manning the point when necessary, and now that Goligoski is going to have an entire preseason focusing on him at the position, you can expect him to excel.
