Flyers, please start the playoffs

There are 3 comments on the Philly.com story from Mar 28, 2011, titled Flyers, please start the playoffs. In it, Philly.com reports that:

IT WAS ANOTHER one of those games, and another one of those awkward postgames, and Flyers captain Mike Richards stood there and muttered under his breath, "Same questions." It is that time of year, when everybody is tired of looking at each other and everybody is tired of waiting for the stuff that really matters.

Flyers want playoffs to start. Why? So that puts them closer to getting out the golf clubs. I am a Flyers fan from 1967. I have never seen a less underachieving team. As a retired professional hockey writer, I've seen it creeping into the lockerrom since late Decemember. No consistentcy, no fight, no fire. And that includes all aspects of the game. Last season in the playoffs and early in the season, these forward were getting to puck firsts, finishing checks, winning all the battles. Goalies were playing on their heads. Now. 39-yer-old defenseman, a mainstay of our defense all year, has to fight twice the other night. No one takes up his banner. This is not a team. Tonight they go into Pittsburgh to lose again. I've missed just two games all year. I have DirectTV's hockey packaage. I'll be the speaker at a high-school banquet tonight and I'll miss a third. I won't miss what I would be seeing. Go Phillies. An old western Pa. sports writer.
