My problem is that everyone--you, I, the team, announcers, commentators, analysts, the coaching staff--can all concede the fact that Islanders need more production from their offense. But DiPietro is praised as "the backbone", "elite", an all-star, a superstar, etc. Nobody ever wants to admit when he plays poorly? Why? Why is it so easy for everyone to criticize the rest of the team and not him? Is it because he's going to be here for 50 years and people are in denial about his talent thus far? People are ALWAYS making excuses for him! Enough! He's not an 18 year old kid. He got drafted in 2000 for crying out loud. When is he going to grow up? He let in an awful goal from the goal line a couple of games ago but because it (BARELY) deflected off of Witt, Howie and Jaffe and DP used that as an excuse. It's not a good goal to let in just because it deflected. HE WAS OUT OF POSITION AGAIN! Pucks are going to deflect! I actually enjoy watching the game on Versus because the announcers will say that they don't know why DiPietro did what he did or that he was out of position. They are honest. I'm just sick of people making excuses for him. He's been around long enough and should know better. I agree. This guy got his contract and it is time for him to play like an allstar. He was drafted 8 years ago. When does the "maturing" process end? Why is it that the NHL is pushing the young stars in the league and the Isles wait five years to bring any body up from the farm? Sillinger and Guerin are fill ins, will never win the cup on LI. Let the kids play and see what they can do. Being the eighth seed and bowing out in the first round is not a stanley cup contender. Go Isles!

He's "the backbone" of the team, and isn't going anywhere for a very, very long time. you know you are all talking like he sucks. he was drafted #1 for a reason and signed a 16 yr contract for a reason. now stop talking sit about dipi just like we all did with eli manning well he won a super bowl didn't he? now hes everyones herp you hipacrite mother fers I think there's cause to be concerned about his play, and I am concerned.

He was drafted number 1 because Mike Milbury is almost as stupid as you.

Yes, and im also one who has questioned his penchant for needless roaming out of his net, and giving up the softest goals, also i have jokingly said that either the team chain him to his net, or cut his legs off at the knees, he needs to stop with his egotistical wandering and learn when to play the puck, not overplay it like he does much too often, when he does that he will be a very good goalie, not before.
