Brophy on Wings: Wheels falling off?
The Detroit Red Wings have been the NHL's model franchise since the mid-nineties. With GM Ken Holland and his able assistants running the show, you always had the feeling the Red Wings would be right in the thick of things at the end of the year.

Maybe the wings wheels are falling off, or maybe Brophy's just spinning his in the mud. I guess this season will tell.

I notice he doesn't mention Franzen who was injured about 75% of the season and is a STUD just entering his prime. Also the Wings have "always" been "old".
The same thing was said when they signed Robitaille, Hull, and Hasek in 2001,(and that team rolled through the playoffs like a hot knife through butter, excepting the Avalanche series).
Not to mention that the Wings AHL team is stocked with three or four players who would be in the NHL with other clubs.
