"Losses like this hit you as deeply and as hard as if you were family,"...

No, Mary, It does not. We can all give our sympathy and support to the family, but unless you have experienced a similar loss - spouse, sibling, or child, you don't have the slightest clue about how they feel. You would NEVER say such a thing if you did. You don't have to live with the loss every day, you aren't reminded of it every day, your life hasn't been tipped over and changed forever, so don't presume that you are hit as deeply and as hard as they are just because it sounds good to you, because it is insulting to those who loved him most

Prayers to the Boogaard family

The guy was a thug. I'll never understand why people think it's OK to take a swing to somebody in hockey.

Listen here loser, I don't hope for the worst, I just heard that he was in a substance abuse program and I wondered if anyone else had any more info.

QUIT making speculation and WAIT for the autopsy results to be released. You don't know!

The NHL and the NHLPA do have a substance abuse program, but that program also ASSISTS players who are dealing with CONCUSSION RELATED ISSUES. Just because he MIGHT have been in that program doesn't mean he was using drugs and alcohol. Have some respect Nostadumas, for crying out loud--or keep your comments to yourself.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Boogaard family during this difficult time. RIP Boo--guess heaven needed an enforcer for the big hockey game up in the sky.

To Nostradumas--keep your IDIOTIC and insenstive comments to yourself and quit making speculation. Did you KNOW Boogaard? I don't think so.

Did you also consider the possibility that the reason they didn't mention how he died is THEY DON'T KNOW?

I understand you'd rather speculate and assume the worst, thereby spitting on the man's grave, but that shows more about your lack of character than about any speculated lack on Boogaard's part.

I don't understand this mourning a hockey goon and dirty player. Will anyone be surprised if the autopsy report finds brain trauma as a cause or contributing factor in his death? The NHL needs to offer a better brand of hockey if it wishes to have a larger audience.
