People use the term "boutght the cup" for a team that snatches entire lines from another team by throwing money at them instead of developing players themselves. Why dont you look at how many of your precious 1994 players were all Oilers and answer your own question for yourself?
Usually, when someone says XXXXX team is trying to buy a championship, it refers to the signing of free agents. The Rangers didnt throw money at Larmer, Anderson, MaCtavish or Tikkanen. Those were players they traded for.

How silly for Rangers management to think that getting experienced cup winners would help !!!

Like it or not, admit it or not, the Rangers won the cup in 94 by icing a considerable chunk of the Edmonton Oilers. Im just letting you know why what was said was said... but there is no point in arguing about whether this is true or not, because it IS true.

How does it feel to have a Ranger draftee on your team ?
I dont think this is a bad pick up. He's cheap and can play a lot of important minutes.
Id guess it feels about the same as you guys feel having an Islander draftee on your team. Only difference is, the Isles are paying a mil and change for one year for ours while the Rags are paying six and a half million a year for the next half dozen years for yours.:)

I understand who was on the team, but it has very little to do with "buying"; and more to do with trying to win.

Right- trying to win by buying players from another team. Again, Im just explaining why it was stated, thats all.

I hear ya... but I do think it was funny that you said that as your own team did the same thing, only they paid a lot more in doing so. Your backup goalie was an Islander, too- and now that the Isles dont have Dubie, the Rags probably have a better backup than the Isles do!

The Rangers bought lines from the Oilers and they sold their future to do it. The proof is in the pudding- what the hell did they do after that? Besides nothing, I mean. No dynasty for the Rangers!

The Rangers traded for Beukaboom, Grave, Messier and Tikkanen. Why do you continue to perpetual this bulls h!t about that team buying anything ? These players were not free agents. Hey, dont look now, but your precious Isles bought some guys from the St Louis Blues, who havent won s*!t ever ! Good luck with that.

What else did they do ? in 1995, they knocked out the #1 seed and in 1997 they did make it to the conference finals. I dont recall the Isles doing much over the last 18 years even with all those super high draft picks.

Oh, and listen to real metal.

The Rangers missed the playoffs for a longer amount of time than the Isles did, Mr super-high draft picks. Chew on that.

Oh- and Savatage, Accept, Maiden, Sabbath, Dio, Dokken, Disturbed, that aint real enough for you? Let me guess, Rangers fan- you listen to nothing but AC/DC and old Van Halen, right? Rock on!!!

Right, they are smooth jazz. Or polka. Whatever- George Lynch sh*ts on your opinion... and so does Jon Levin, who used to be in Warlock. And Lynch is a Disturbed fan, too- they have even been on stage together.

I'm an Isles fan and can tell you that the Rangers did'nt buy those players or the Cup. Simple fact is that there was no unrestricted free agency back then. However because of their great financial resources they were able to afford the salaries of those players that they acquired which not too many teams could've done. Yes, in '94 the Oilers won their 6th Cup.LOL!

According to Isles-logic, the Isles wouldnt have won anything had they not "bought" a player from the LA Kings.

Metal Chick - Distrubed arent metal. Dokken is metal if you believe VH1.
