Time to see if Gordon's system works for Islanders

Full story: Newsday

When Scott Gordon exchanged his goalie pads for a minor-league coaching career 14 years ago, he admittedly couldn't draw up more than five practice drills.

This is the first season that Isles management has decided not to lie to the fans

Maybe we will see a miracle on ice

Isles have needed this youth movement for the longest time. Fans shouldn't expect much this year, but we'll get to see what we have with a few guys who may be key for us in the future.

stay strong isles fans.

Don't the low-lifes that own Newsday own the Islanders? And how many people see one of those stupid games like 20? Nothing like going to some filthy old dump and paying to park and then all that $$$ for a lame hockey game! A sucker is hatched every minute on LI!

So what you are saying is that if the building was brand new and someone else owned them ,they would be a great team? You are a moron.

I have to admit, I'm very excited for the puck to drop. I like the youth movement and it gives me more of a reason to cheer the team on than a rehashed lineup of old veterans (even tho we have a few of those, its not the predominant make up of the team)

GO ISLESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

I remember in the mid 70's, hockey was a real sport. Hard-hitting, refs let the players play, fights were part of the violent sport. Today, with over-expansion and rule changes every year, Gary Bettman has ruined, absolutely ruined the sport. There was nothing like a Ranger/Flyer game or an Islander/Ranger game back in the day. I would watch all 80 games. I would go to a handful of games at the Garden.

Where is Hockey today? They have no national contract after ESPN got sick of the bad ratings. Forget Saturday afternoon hockey on NBC...it couldn't beat figure skating for viewership. They got dumped by FOX a few years ago. They don't even broadcast the All-star game. The playoffs were broadcast on VS network What a joke! No one cares anymore. Now look at Football and how well managed it is. Too bad Bettman couldnt take a page out of that book. Keep fooling yourselves that hockey is so great..I'd rather watch the LI ducks or the LI cougars play than the garbage that is out there today!

The is a poor test of teh man's system, since the players he has are as a group...below average.

How can anybody even watch an Isles game when Charles Chan keeps the lowest payroll in the league ticket prices are in the top 5?

Tehy are 10 million BELOW teh cap. He has not given the backup goalie a chance.

This coach will be fine and will win a cup..........when he leaves the Isles.what a joke of a team.

Agree.....but it's not fair to compare any sport to football since football is all about gambling.
At work most have Monday night pools or weekely pics....and many bet with the bookie.
So to compare a regional sport like hockey to a national gambling exhibition like Football (college or pros) just is not fair.

Okay article overall,, title is wrong. Now is not the time to judge Gordons system seeing how the players are all new to it AND the players we have are mediocre at best. Time to judge Snows GM ability would be more like it. Are any of these kids that Snow has put faith in going to show us something this year? Gordons system is proven to work and will work once he gets the right players in it.
