Above the 49: Slumping Canucks may have to sacrifice Vigneault

The Vancouver Canucks are still a Stanley Cup contender in the eyes of many, but if they want to get to the promised land this season, they might have to jettison head coach Alain Vigneault along the way.

Completely agree! Canucks definitely need a 'shake up' and I think a new coach is exactly what this team needs. Can't put all the blame on AV as some of the squad need to seriously step it up a few notches, but getting a replacement for AV is a great place to start!

It's not AV, it's Gillis!!!!! Look what AV has to work with. Kassian for Hodgson. Hodgson has 22 pts as of today. Kassian hasn't scored in 18 straight games. Wouldn't Grabner be nice right about now?(Traded for a bag of pucks by Gillis). Luongo stupid contact $$$$$$. Keith Ballard? Jason Garrison??? These are all stupid trades that gillis has done since being GM. I'm surprised that nobody says anything about how he has decimated this team. AV brought a totally different team to the cup a couple of years ago. It's not AV!!! fire Gillis!!!!!

I am not a fan of AV as he seems to have blinders when it comes to certain players but he is not the problem this year. Players are just not performing up to their potential...and I mean most of them. I do not think Schnieder is the goalie of the Canuck future and he should be traded while his value s high. He has been given too many games based on his performance and Lu has been given too few. The Sedins are no where near the players they can be. Garrison seems to have lost his touch, as has Booth. Key injuries have played a part, but good teams over come that. I love burrows but he is not playing like he can this year.
Bright spots? Raymond, Hanson,Tanev and Ballard are all better this year than in the past couple. The rest of the team are playing the way they have in the past but when you have adversity, they need to step up and they are not.
I give Kassian a pass this year because he is still young and learning but he needs to start playing his size.

@ForwardThinker - not much of a foresight on Schneids, buddy ... perhaps you should consider changing your handle, unless you meant it as a joke.

@me, I agree - Gillis should have been gone long time ago. But I suggest If you check out capgeek.com , it's easy to see what other teams (that are higher than the 'Nucks in the standings) can afford to do in terms of trades since they have the cap room to play with. We got lucky with Booth (LTIR), but otherwise we're cap poor this year and next.

@ForwardThinker has a good point on AV's blinders though - e.g. Edler. Might as well take him out too :-)

I know the canucks are cap poor but my question is who's fault is that??? Answer: Gillis.... He's the one who signed Lou to that contract.( with Schneider in the minors). Gillis got Ballard at a whopping 4.5 mil per year. The guy is retarded. Hodgson? Grabner?
