If they're really $8M below the MINIMUM, they should just overpay for a superstar like Hossa or even Komisarek, or EVEN Heatley...if you've got to spend the $8M, why not get a superstar player

Ok, maybe not Heatley because they'd have to give players too, and Heatley has reportedly been traded to the Oilers, pending his approval. But I mean if the money has got to be spent, spend it on a guy the fans will love to watch and will get the team attention.

The Islanders MIGHT go after a FA goaltender? It had better be that they are DEFINITELY going after a FA goaltender. There is nothing the Islanders need more.

As far as what snow said about the Wrecker, I agree with him- I think they might have somehting in him too. But he is still developing and Tavares will need some F/T protection in a few weeks, not a year or so.

Most superstars wont come to the island unless they grossly overpay and would handicap them one day when they have a good team. They are better off signing a washed up goalie filling needs with the 8 million. DP cannot come back this season if ever, he hasnt even skated in over a year not to mention see 100 MPH pucks flying towards him. Sign a goalie for 2yrs and hope that the gigantic Fin or the gigantic Swede they drafted pans out. With the rest of the 8 million get some toughness and maybe a few low risk high/reward signings...Afinogenov types

i think the islanders need to go after 3 things this summer, obviously a goalie, another dman, and another good forward.
for the goalie id say Marty Biron or Scotty Clemmensen. Biron was a quality backup when he played as BU for Hasek and Miller, and Clemmensen, who had HUUUUGE shoes to fill when Brodeur was injured, saved the devils season and when Marty comes back, they insult Scotty by sending him to the minors instead of getting rid of that pantywaste kevin weekes. for the Dman, bring back an LI native Mike Komisarek. Hes a beast, hes pretty much a good balance of Witt and Streit, physical, but also a good offensive presense. and for forward, id say phil kessel but hes an RFA, so for UFA id say Marian Hossa, though i doubt hell sign here because he left the pens to win it all with detroit, and just rejected detroits offer cuz it wasnt enough money...sorry buddy but 7.5 mil and you didnt do squat in the playoffs where it matters you aint gettin no payraise. regardless hes still a huge goalscorer and even with tavares and if some of the other youngsters bloom you can never have too much scoring

Man, the Isles are going to sign a FA goalie. This is after the took two goalies in he draft and were laughed at beacuse the two weren't highly regarded. Last year they signed McDonald and some other dude, then were going to bring back Dubie but another team stepped in. Since they drafted me,#1 in the draft, and touted me as he face of the franchise, and said they had a franchise goalie, I have really let them down. The Rags took Henriq in the 7th round, and he has won some playoff series. I have never won a playoff series. Son of a Gun, the Isles haven't won a playoff series since 1993. Now I have a bad hip. I hurt my self in the skills competition and I've never felt good since. I think my career is in jeopardy. I'm afraid I will go down in history as a bust. What do you guys think?

To the Staten Islander...why wold you overpay anybody? Be patient...Think goalie and bodyguard...

It's too bad they won't resign Danis. With a decent D in front of him he could be a solid back up goalie. the fact is the Isles D is a goalie killer, too many shots on goal. period. They need to sign a solid goatender like Clemensen or Conklin. With the rest of their money they should sign UFA Havlat, a big winger who led the hawks in scoring and is still young. He would be the steal of the Free agent market. Only if Snow could sign that gem like he did last year with Streit, everyone has been praising him for that pick up.

This is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!
Can the organization cut their losses and admit DP's career is over, I have been saying it for over 8 months now and everyone laughed at me, this guy's career is done! Sign Kolzig AND Clemmenson, let the big drafted goalie develop for 2/3rds of this season and call him up in February to see what he's got. Meanwhile go sign Komaserik, whatever it takes to get him here....GET HIM NOW! Grab Shcneider from The Habs as well for when Witt and Sutton go down in Novemeber for most of the season. We need forwards on the cheap to give more time for the youngsters to develop, sign Lundmark from Calgary or Devereaux from Toronto or Pettinger from Tampa Bay. I like the Wrecker but since we are not even at the floor of the slary cap go sign one more bruiser to protect JT.

Bergenheim Tavares Okposo
Streit Komaserik

Now THAT is a sick first line

just because there is a salary cap, it doesn't mean you have to spend that much.

Sure I'd like to see them get better, but why overpay for a player? Does anyone remember Yashin......or did we forget about that one already?? You have to think 2 or 3 years down the line .......you'll be stuck with a bad contract and will be handcuffed.

The only thing the isles should do this season is sign a goalie and an established enforcer. We all know the isles are weak and the young guys need protection. the only way they sign Koms is if they trade sutton. there is no need to have 3 stay at home dmen. The one thing they must avoid is signing anyone to a big contract!! they are poison to the team. Look at how many big contracts work!!! Stay with youth and let them gain experience and eventually you can use the money to resign our own players.

i am glad they are 8 mil under the cap because they are going to need it to pay off dp for the next 24 years! how much money are the isles going to be paying yash and dp who wont be playing for the next decade! i think they should sign more long term contracts. the isles will have two huge cap hits for a good portion of my life. talk about stupid

It's pretty sad. The isles plan is to miss the playoffs 4 seasons in a row so at best they become a team that can "hopefully" make the playoffs. In other words be as good as the yashin years. Isles are not building some dynasty here. Every team has a okiposo. Baily? The guy won't hit 20 goals next season he doesn't know how to get shots off. Look at the stats on espn.com . He shoots 1/3 rd less then any top 30 goal scorer in the NHL. Isles see to cheap to compete in NHL. Always lowest paid coaches and gm's. Always lowest paid NHL roster. They use rebuilding excuse. If rebuilding cost same amount of money as paying the gaboriks heatlys and hossa's the isles would sign these guys. But they are cheap n since they are poorly run by Wang they don't makeuch money therefore can't spend much $$$$

Hey Pete, you really need to start wearing a hat when you're out in the sun, your brain is getting fried. Garth Clueless? I guess all the moves made at the draft were products of the Mysterious Mr Wongs brain storming. To the rest of you, there ain't enough $ to buy all the players you want or need unless you're using Obamanomics to do the math. This ain't a gov't project where you can spend more $ than you have. Sutton a stay at home defenseman? That's an understatement. The guy never moves, he plants himself in front of the net and screens his own goaltender. Hey Charlie and Gary, forget about Las Vegas getting a team. We're broke but we do have lots of scrap metal laying around from partially built casinos that went broke. We can buy all that iron to build a new stadium, unless the Culinary union says "No,nosotros necetitamos el dinero para mas immigrants illegal"

Arent we finally free from that Yashin debacle, didnt he sign for 10 yers in 2000? so either we are done paying him, or this is the last season we have to pay that pantywaste. DP should man up, apologzie in a press conference and for the good of the team, retire, restructure his contract, and become a coach. Now I don't even want him as a coach but you have to justify paying his salary so let him be a 2nd string conditioning coach down in bridgeport.

They're WAY more than $8 mil under the cap... they're 8mil under the MINIMUM end of the cap. The CBA includes a minimum payroll for all teams and the Isles are way under.
