JT is the perfect pick for this team. I pray that Garth doesn't blow it.

Chris Botta from Islanders Point Blank had this quote:

"Seems a little bizarre the Islanders came in last in the league, won a lottery and will make the obvious choice - and are going to make it seem like an accomplishment. But I also concede that sometimes I can be cynical. Must be the career change!"

Newsday is running a poll asking fans who should the Islanders take at the #1 spot....81% said take John Tavares. The way I see it Garth Snow has no choice. I am going to the draft party at the Coliseum tonight and if any other name comes out of Snow's mouth I am running for the exits fast. There will be a riot. If Snow takes Tavares and he turns out to be a bust no one will be able to fault him. If he takes Victor Hedman, Matt Duchene or makes a trade and Tavares turns out to be the next Sidney Crosby then Snow will be fired. He is stuck...he has no choice, right or wrong the pick is Tavares.

This is Snow's opportunity to turn things around on the Island. Taveras should be a priority. His only weakness is his mediocre skating ability. He's a sniper around the net with extremely quick hands. Doug Weight was resigned for a reason to assist Taveras with his transition to the NHL. Hedman would be a solid pick and Duchene would be an unpopular choice but has the ability both offensively and defensively to be another Joe Sakic.

An open letter to New York Islander fans:

Please try and understand why I gave the #1 pick John Tavares to Toronto. Yes, I traded down 2 years in a row and took a defenseman. Don't worry, we will sign him to a 20 year contract and together with Rick Di Pietro we will rule the basement of Kansas City. I am sorry I put the final nail in the coffin of the New York Islanders franchise.

Sincerely,

Garth Snow

wow..all this hype for a kid, who will likely score 22 goals next season in the NHL Jason Blake popped 40 and they let him walk. The Isles are the worst team in the NHL next season no matter who they draft because the Isles are to cheap to offer contracts to gaborik, Bouwmester, and Chara, Savard in the past. THe Isles are the Pitssburgh pirates of hockey,...lets face it folks, you don't go 20 years without winning a playoff round by accident. You have to have a organization run by losers with no drive to win

Remember in 2000, when the Isles drafted DP as the 1st overall pick, and the Rangers drafted Lundqvist in the 7th round?

That was awesome

I love it when idiots attempt to reiterate the" clever" things they've read but they don't get it right... the Isles have not gone 20 years without winning a playoff series.

The Isles will not trade down for a bunch more picks. This is the year they consolidate the picks and prospects they have into better quality. The team comes out of the draft with fewer players than they have players and picks now... but those fewer players will have higher potential.

Was it really that awesome? How many cups did Lundqvist bring to the Rags? The same amount as DP right? One word to describe Henrik.....Overated!
