DiPietro is now approaching Patrick Stefan status as one of the worst #1 overall pics ever.

I agree with you idea, but not the implementation. Joey MacDonald proved to be an option at least worth exploring. He played well behind a crappy and oft-injured defensive corps. I'd say he's at least worth a look when healthy again.

Makes perfect sense. I thought Dipietro was a bust from day 1. He has yet to prove he is worth 2 years let alone 15 years with the team.

You heard it here first...

DP will become the Rick Ankiel of the NHL. After the Cardinal's pitcher could not find the strike zone, he went back to the minors and became one of the most feared hitters and top outfielders in MLB last year.

With DiPietro's ability to handle the puck and his skating ability, his eventual return will be as a FORWARD! As a left wing he'll be much less vulnerable to knee or hip injuries and head shots and he'll solve the Islanders' scoring problems by averaging 30 goals a season for the next dozen years!

Plus, that'll open room for Mr. Wang to finally put that Sumo wrestler in net...

I'm sure they could have used the pick to help their fourth line instead.

When are the Isles gonna wake up and fire the entire training staff/ Has any other team in the league lost more games to injuries over the past 2 seasons. On the bright side, most of the training staff probably won't relocate to Kansas City.

An article the Islanders should really take to heart. DiPietro should have NEVER been signed to a 15 year contract - he was never that good. Unfortuantely, the Isles are now stuck with him because of their own stupidity. Did they learn nothing from their Yashin fiasco?

There is a reason why ONLY Mike Milbury used the #1 pick to draft a goalie.

The year, the team and Ricky's career... to think we already had Luongo and should have had Dany Heatly, it still boggles my mind.

Didn't the Islanders draft a couple of goalies in later rounds of the last few drafts? Where are they now and what happened to them? At this point why not give one of them a chance at a NHL game.

yeah your right, wrong!
Stefan didnt score nothing, didnt lead his team into the playoffs, or anything. DP is probably never going to be in the hockey HOF, but its funny how all the mature Rags fans come out of the woodwork when the Isles have a bad season.

Ridderwahl, the Isles drafted 2 years ago, and now must sign him to a NA contract, he could be a decent starting goalie (replacement for DP) compared to the DUbies, MacD's and Danis of the NHL, who are 3rd or 4th string goalies at best, other than on LI ofcourse

Herrmann good point.

But-Gordon shouldnt be praising Yann Denis. Has the guy made some brillant saves...yes. Has he let in some pretty weak goals yes. Yanni is a work in progress...but he has shown some flashes of talent- I say give him a chance. Personnaly I believe the Islanders should target players who can score(at least some players who can get their shots on net)...no reason to draft a goalie in the first 3-4 rounds.
