Pick Tavares! Hes perfect for us he scores we need goals. He a marquee name and thats what we need. Also if you dont pick him then I dont know if there will be a coliseum standing on June 27th.

On a side note to all isles fans posting in this thread. Dont humor the ranger trolls that everyone knows will post. Just post about the isles and how good Tavares will look in the third jersey after we draft him.

Go Isles!!!!

Too bad Doug Weight isn't the GM. There'd be no doubt he'd pick Tavares. As a 1,000 point scorer, he knows all about the importance of having someone on the ice that can, you know, put the puck in the net. That IS the point of playing hockey, right? To score more goals than your opponent?

Defense is important but now offense wins games and championships as the Wings,(with top 10 scorers Zetterberg & Datsyuk), and Penguins,(with top 10 scorers Crosby & Malkin), can attest.

Aw, who the hell am I kidding? Garth's picking Hedman. Damn LI & their golf courses!

Defense is very important. If you don't score, you can't win but if the other team doesn't score, you can't lose.

That's the Islanders problem. They can't score! Their defense is OK. Sure Hedman is better than Gervais & Meyer combined without even playing a game of NHL hockey. However, the bigger problem the Isles face is a lack of goal scorers.

When a defenseman not named Orr, Leetch, or Bourque leads your team in scoring, it's not a good sign. Even Potvin & Paul Coffey didn't lead their team in points.

Not one player on the Isles had more than 18 goals. And let's face it, Nate Thompson, Franz Nielsen, Jeff Tambellini, Richard Park, Andy Hilbert and 39 year old Doug Weight are not exactly the 84-85 Edmonton Oilers.

Garth, don't be like Charlie Brown & pick the scraggly wooden christmas tree that everyone hates. It'll take morre than a little love to fix the Islanders.

For all the fans who want the Islanders to take Tavares,I just want to remind you of the 93 draft. That year there where 2 top prospects. The offensive wiz and a tall defenseman.Ottawa took the offensive wiz and Hartford took the defenseman 2nd.Those players where Alexandre Daigle and Chris Pronger.Daigle never scored more then 26 goals in a season and Pronger is on his way to the Hall of Fame.Tavares will be a goal scorer yes who might turn out to be the next Mike Gartner or Pat Verbeek.Victor Hedman could be our next Denis Potvin.Pick Hedman not Tavares. After last year not drafting Luke Schenn correct the mistake. No disrespct to Josh Bailey however Schenn is going to be a star and Bailey will be a nice player nothing more.Take the defenseman. It is easier to trade for a foward then a top defenseman.Hedman would play next year.Tavares if draft will play next year whether he is ready or not.Hedman is ready now.I know this will be an unpopular post but Hedman is the call here not Tavaers.

Golden opportunity here for Isles to market themselves and sell tickets.I would have ticket reps all over Nassau Coliseum at the draft party.Tavares will sell tickets immediately. If the Islanders do this right,it will be a great day in their history. If not, well there's always Mitch Fritz and the Wrecker to entertsain 8000 people a night.

Hedman is a skilled player and would be a fine addition. If the Islanders decide he's the choice no problem. However, the Islanders are in need of a marquee player and Taveras is the guy. He's the poster boy the Islanders need. I saw him play at the World Juniors and he's the real deal. He has quick hands is puck savvy and always seems to find the open man. He does need some work to improve his skating. Doug Weight was resigned for a reason to help Taveras transition to the NHL. Additionally, by drafting Taveras the Islanders will get publicity, which will probably lead to the Lighthouse project being approved. Snow has a plan to rebuild through the draft. If he stays the course, within two years the Islanders will again be a league power.

Keep dreaming LIers.....Yes they will pick Tavares, after 2-4 years when he has started to develop and is on the verge of being the all star that he could be, we all know what is going to happen - the Islanders will say that because of the lack of a new colliseum they have to trade him for 3 or 4 picks and in the end will remain in last place while teasing the fans!!!!!
Move on Islander fans, no matter how much we would love for them to win the cup again, its not going to happen!!!!!!
