Snow is going for the cup......the Calder Cup, that is. Face the facts! Snow, with the exception of Tavares, is basically putting the same team on the ice as last season. It's a drive for the first draft pick in 2010. It was my hope he would sign a winger who could score 20+ goals and a big D-man. I do think he signed two new ushers and a cotton candy vendor who is 6'6" and comes in at 280 lbs. Good luck to all us Islander fans.
Why cant you face the facts my friend?

Looking at last year going into training camp-we didnt even have a coach.
At least we have a coach-who has had time to learn his players abilities and to implement his desired system of play. The players had a year of playing together. Weve added the best prospect in Tavares...and a #1 Goalie in Roloson. And Hilbert is gone.

Im not saying were playoff bound (but it could happen) but the fact is the Isles are a better team today than we were going into camp last year.

I hoped we might sign a big name too...but Snow had said before and after the draft, the Isles werent going to be major players in the free agent market. It sucks...but were building through the draft....its going to take time.

Ok, I think it's enough with comments like this. They signed Roloson because DiPietro's knee was a big concern. Adding these minor league goalies has nothing to do with it. They have everything to do with the fact that the Isles had injuries to 3 different goalies last year and they are worried about their depth in goal.
Alright, yes the Islander's had 3 goalies on the shelf at one point last year. Even what's his name, oh yea, Mike Dunham flirted with coming out of retirement to suit up one game as a back-up.

Should the bigger factor be the training staff or the medical staff, since the Islander's racked up the league's highest injuring time/games missed by players????

We have a coach????? If that's what you call a NHL coach we are in a lot of trouble.
If he's going to resort to the same system as last season, we're dead last again. Groin pulls galore. You'll need six more trainers. One good thing I hadn't heard is that Hilbert is gone. What happened to him? Now, if we can get rid of Sim, Thompson, Hunter, and Tambellini and replace them with guys like Joensuu and Iggulden and a couple more hungry kids, it might be interesting. Does Gordon owe you money? Also Wang kept Snow from paying for any good FA's.

I would expect his system to be mostly the same with a few tweaks here and there. Tell me it wasn't more exciting to watch than it had been though. There are a few issues we all hope he will address/has learned from.
Who knows if we'll get any enforcer or scoring help. I hope so, but they did say there wouldn't be any huge signings. So if that's the case those boys had better learn quick to keep their heads up! And yeah, I would be disappointed that Snow wouldn't do more to protect our "valuable young assets". That's probably my biggest beef.
I can be patient while they see what they've got in the players that will play this season. I know this year is about development. I HOPE we get to see development and also that we end our "record injuries" run. And I look forward to seeing Tavares' first goal, hopefully not too many games in.
I also hope we get to finally start adding some serious pieces to the team next summer. The losing season they are about to have is going to wear on them.

I absolutely agree...this is 2 years in a row that the Isles have been decimated by injuries. What happens when the Isles have a team that's actually ready to compete for something? We can't have these injuries continue to plague the team.

What about Eager from Chi? It sounds like he might be avaiable. It would be nice if he added people to help the NHL team.

Look at this, an Islander board with no Ranger fan trolls (except perhaps the guy from Stony Brook) on here. Too bad real ranger fans can't expect the same courtesy on the boards about their teams. Isn't that right, Isles from East Meadow?? Ya know nothing troll ya......

Snow, how about fortifying the NY Islander's team first? Dozens of FA had been signed by other teams. Another year deeply under the salary cap!

Am I missing something here? Why is Snow fortifying our AHL team? What about our NHL team, or to most people our NHL team would seem a lot more like an AHL team. This just absurd! Garth, you are letting all Islander fans down- why can't you go out and get a couple of free agents to at least create the illusion that you want to be competitive, or that we can at least have a season where our guys go out and compete night in and night out. The difference between us and the Penguins, is that the Pens drafted well. Your drafting skills have been doubtful at best. Komisarek? Gionta? Madden? Heatley? Craig Anderson? Clemensen? What was wrong with these guys Garth? Oh right, you'd rather have the 75-year old washed up injury-prone Doug Weight than those guys. I get you. Garth, do us a favor, step down from your position! We want to win and keep the Isles on Long Island. Don't delay the inevitable, just go to KC already.

You need to chill out. Relax today, have a nice 4th of July BBQ, have a few drinks and things will look better.

You DO know that they already fired the trainers from last year, right? Your point is valid that you have to look beyond the players once you lead the league in man-games lost to injury two years in a row... but they've addressed that.

No one decent is signed by now, with other words.. keep the cost down and see what develops through the farm or maybe a trade or two.
What you see is what you get right now. Just hang in, it will get better.
