1)My condolences to the Tavares family.

2) Islanders will $uck again next year but be a younger horrible franchise.

3) Islander fans will enjoy the excitement of a high draft position again next year.

4) When your favorite hockey team is more exciting in June on paper than it is in October on the ice you are officially a loser.

i forgot about sim.....why is he in gordons doghouse? guy scored 17 goals few yrs back and can easily be better then any other option on the 4th line, plus he has some grit...i say sim-park-comeau for the 4th line...grit and defense responsible...?

I cut off your quote right at the point that it lost all credibility.

Islander's have $23.8 million in salary cap space. It's now time to break the piggy bank and sign 2 or 3 free agents! Don't wait Garth, sign FA quickly.

Nik Antropov, Dany Heatley, Colton Orr, Phil Kessel, Marian Hossa, Michael Cammalleri, Mike Komisarek, Jeff Woywitka, or Mattias Ohlund. Maybe even Shane O'Brien but his high PIM can be an issue.

Any thoughts?

I don't like the idea of Antropov of Orr simply because they are tainted but that probably isn't a good reason to nix them.

Hossa doesn't exactly have a reputation as a character guy but if they can take advantage of circumstances to sign a proven 40 goal scorer then they should.
I am WAY in favor of making an attempt to get Kessel since Boston has already said they will not re-sign him.
I also think Komisarek is a really good idea but I'd love to know if it's a total pipe dream... guess we'll know within the next few days. It's a good sign that he's not already re-signed since it was a stated goal to sign him before he became UFA.

Im still in amazement that you called Comrie tough. hahahahah Who is he tough against, Sergie Brylin on the devils.......maybe he can take on Gionta ? Mike Comrie and his one handed stick slap on the backcheck (IFFFFF he backchecked) should enjoy the sinking ship in Ottawa......
Joel Rechlicz wont have the heavyweight title, but the kid can go with the heavyweights. This is the NHL and John Tavares is going to get hit. Sutton, Witt, and Rechlicz are all decent enough with their fists. Its not going to be the goons on the other team taking off Tavares' head. What the isles need is another veteran N American who will stick up for his teamates. Its not about picking up a goon to take on Orr, or Godard. Its about team toughness........having a player (like Guerin) who will stick up for his teamates........
For his size, Comrie is tough. Not sorry he is gone mind you, and he is a relative shrimp, but at least he stuck up for people and would hold his own in a fight.

I did say "god help us" its not like I thought Comrie was any kind of a badass. Its more to point out that the sobering fact that even Comrie was one of the relatively tougher guys on the team last season.

Park is a winger, but I agree that Nate Thompson should go, although the Islanders gave him a QO. I'm not much of a fan personally. The only upside I see to moving Tavares is that he can play with Bailey. Bailey a playmaker and Tavares a scorer maturing together over a few years could turn out to be a deadly combination. Throw Trent on that line to add some muscle and thats a nice looking line there.
Park has played in the middle plenty of times especially in Minnesota and for us as well though hes is better suited as a winger. Taveras has been a center for his career so why screw with it?

Gainey won't make it to opening night. Habs fans are calling for his head on every site. What a crap trade he should be fired. Its a shame Sather was able to unload that contract and actually get something back.

Romano is an overager, there is no way to tell what he can do till he gets to the AHL. Most likely a nothing trade, except it shows that they are going after LI guys...Komisarek will get an offer today for sure might not be good enough but he will get something to think about.
Like Knuble and Afinogenov both would be great additions. Tangauy and Gionta are not coming to LI.

Patience is a virtue, you cant get Malkin AND Crosby in the same draft, it takes years of losing and lots of patience!

At least there is a blueprint for this rebuilding, unlike the last 4 rebuilding attempts over the previous 2 decades

If Romano played for the london knights two years ago, did he play with JT and DeHaan???

Thank you for being one of the few fans to recognize this. When Snow first took over he tried the Smyth thing... it was a bold move but it flopped. After that he realized that he was not going to be able to build a winner through FA or trades without a core of drafted talent in place.

He just started the new plan last year and he told us flat out that things would likely get worse before they got better. Let's hope that last year was the bottom out and we can patiently build a winner... but I wouldn't expect anything too soon.

As far as the other thing... JT was in Oshawa 2 years ago.
