Mike Milbury traded the consensus top young goaltender, Roberto Luongo, the Islanders would have been much better with Luongo and Gaborik or Heatley. Milbury's ill advised moves set the Islanders back many years.

Staple has no idea what he's talking about

no, Tavares is not Crosby, Ovechkin or Malkin, but he IS regarded as better than Stamkos

also, he won't be playing on a line with Bailey because they're both centers

finally, the selection of DiPietro was not the "right move" it cost them Gaborik or Heatley and led to the trade of Luongo and Jokinen - a DISASTER

Arthur Staple has NEVER watched John Tavares play. Ever. And let's not forget who signs Staple's paychecks.

A draft with no clear-cut star? Have you seen a single hockey scouting report Staple?

I can only assume you are trying to rain on the Isles & their fans' parade. It's a shame you were not smart enough to back off a little. Saying there was no clear-cut star in this draft simply shows that you don't have the slightest clue about hockey. This is a great move for the Isles, and it should work out very well for them. I don't think anyone expects JT to be the next Mike Bossy. But reading this article let me know you are the journalistic equivalent of Tomi Petinen.

I think JT will net 20 goals in his rookie year, and the Isles will contend for the 8th playoff spot.

Yeah this JT kid just sucks.....He certainly is not any of those other guys; however I do seem to remember reading somewhere that he did break one of Gretzky's records and tell me if I am wrong but did any of those other guys do that? JT will be great for the Islanders. Jt, Bailey & OKO will make a nice line next season! I know Bailey is a center, but I do believe they played him a bit at wing too.
I am not sure that I really care but I do know I am excited for the season to begin, which has not been the case for a long time!

Doesn't matter what they do, who they draft or who they sign. Their front office is a joke. They are so poorly managed it is too frustrated to watch. I can't even believe I am posting here or paying attention to the draft. I guess I can't give up on my history. Bossy. Trotts. Potvin. I want to be proud of this team again. And I just don't think I can with Chris Dey and Garth Snow running the show..

Please. You have no idea what type of future Tavares has in the NHL. Six months ago, Tavares led Canada to a WJC. No one is comparing him to Crosby, Malkin or Ovechkin. Islander fans expect him to be a franchise scorer. He will be a fine hockey player. And to say he is not as good as Stamkos- give me a break. Tavares has played junior hockey since the age of 15, and scored more goals than Gretzky at that level. Don't bash the Isles just to bash them.

no offense to dp, but when they had luongo, simply based on that, that made it the wrong move. And from what we know now, it sure was the wrong move.

This guy Staple cracks me up. Milbury made the right choice with picking Ricky? And how the hell does this guy know Taveres wont be Stamkos? No clear cut number !? Says who? This guy from day one four years ago has been the clear cut number one. Im not going to disect this guys idiotic comments any further, they speak for them self. Half of us could have wrote a better article then this.

What a shock Ranger-owned Newsday put down the pick every way possible and went right to Milbury and the past which is their comfort zone.

Funny last night the way Newsday reported you would have thought Dolan's laughingstock Knicks picked Michael Jordan and not Jordan Hill.

And Dolan's shills like Staple would have been saying how high when Dolan said jump.

New York City has a franchise hockey player finally and he's a New York Islander, the championship tradition in this town.

Snow did get it right but obviously Arthur Staple doesn't know Islander history.

Mike Milbury did not make the right choice choosing DP over Heatly when he had Roberto Luongo already in an Islander uniform. Stop trying to rewrite history?

You are right. He's not Ovechkin, or Crosby or Malkin. He's JOHN TAVARES AND HE IS AN ISLANDER! And that is good enough for me.
Where I stopped reading is where you said "He's not even Steven Stamkos". You're right there also. He's better then Stamkos. Maybe you missed the WJC's. Maybe you missed that he broke WAYNE GRETZKY's OHL single season goal record. Maybe you missed that he has scored more goals in the OHL then any player in the history of that league. Did Stamkos do any of those things?
No he is no Crosby type player, we all know that. But relax with the "he's not even a Stamkos"
Not a day to piss on Isles fans shoulders is it Staple.

Staple is obviously an idiot. His article is not even worth discussing. I'm so pumped we got Tavares, but what does everyone think about the 2nd pick. Seems like we gave up a lot of picks (by my count 6) to get De Haan and one other pick. Not sure about that one, especially since many scouts had De Haan going in the 20's where the Isles could have drafted him originally.
