Full story: Newsday

Two days after captain Bill Guerin was pulled from the Islanders' lineup because of what was believed to be a pending trade, it has become clear there was no solid deal.

I cant even explain how dopey it is for you to troll Islanders articles and make up dumb things like this. WTH motivates you to such efforts?

Any leads on what we expect to get in return for Guerin? I do not want another "1st" round pick that equates to a 25th or higher, that is just giving it away. Now, if we can repair the Guerin relationship, get Weight healthy they can continue teaching these young kids what it is like to win.

The cap does want out, let the aging vet go. He is 38 and we should probably get what we could from a trade.

I was reading an article somewhere and a source close to Guerin said he wanted off the Island. Apparantly he did not like playing for Scott Gordon. Oh well at least he will get a chance to finish his career with the oppurtunity to win the cup.

A mid to high 2nd round pick would be fair. That or some B level prospects.

You DO realize that Guerin is a 38 year old guy with 3 months left on his contract, right? You have very unrealistic views of his worth.

I like Guerin and I think it was good having him these past 2 years but unless he wants to sign for another 2 now and finish out his career as a mentor the right thing to do is to get something for him... and I would highly doubt it will be anything as good as a first round pick.

Rob, I swear you are the only voice of reason....

If Garth got a 2nd round pick for Guerin he should do backflips through his office..

The guy is 38 years old with 16 goals...if he gets a 1st round pick what does a young talented player get? 4 1st round picks?

Oh- you read "an article" that said that, huh? No you didnt. There are tens of thousandds of Islanders fans scouring for any word that even mentions any of our players right now- but youre tryng to tell me that there is some article with direct quotes from our captain regarding this organization, and YOU know of it but no Islanders fan has seen it? Sorry but I do not believe you.

quotes regarding our captain, I meant- not from... but the fact remains that if this article actually existed, someone besides a random Rangers fan would have seen it.

Guerin to Pittsburgh for a 5th rd pick that could move to 3rd rd based on performance?

What a waste, I would rather have him on the Island for the last 2-3 yrs of his career with Weight to teach these kids what it REALLY takes to win in the NHL today.

There was nothing of substance in that TSN article- cerainly no valid quotes or reputable sources cited.

When I said that, there were 3458923 Isles fans telling me how wrong I was, that he is old and washed up and a POS and clammoring for the Isles to trade the guy for anything they could get for him since he was going to walk this summer and that they would be mad as hell if the Isles gane him another contract. I read that stupid trade him for "a bag of pucks" suggestion more times than I could count. But now that the guy IS traded, there are those same 3458923 Isles fans, only NOW they are clammoring that they should have not only kept him, but ALSO should have given him another contract for two more seasons.

There is nothing that will stop some of you from complaining- NOTHING.

I understand your frustrations but never once did I want to see Guerin leave the Island, I wanted him to play out the rest of his career here, and with the addition of Weight this past offseason, the chemistry looked great. You can complain about other people, but not me, I was never the one who wanted to trade this guy....ever. It's too tough to find charlie hustles in a sea of lazy NHL vets and as we all saw for part of this year, these guys hustle, so unless Snow was somehow guaranteed a high first rd. pick I would have kept and resigned Guerin.

I can't believe anyone is complaining.

He was 38 years old and terrible.
Do you really care that he is gone?

Take the draft pick and hope you can get lucky in the draft,

wouldn't you rather have that then a guy who will collecting social security by the time you are competitive?

PS - what happens in say 3 years when the team is 1-2 snipers away from a deep playoff run? Will history repeat itself? Will the Isles grab a few key FA forwards, who get them to a first round and out playoff appearance, then fire the coach, trade the key guys, shed the up and comers and start this merry-go-round all over again for what like the 5th time since the 90's?
