I am a die hard Islander fan but I hope he gets traded to the Maple Leafs or Canadiens (Higgins and draft picks?) for the best interest of the sport.

I thought about that last night. If the Isles take the consensus number one pick, they will get more clout with people who are less than hockey fans. The rational is simple. If they take even a number two pick for some other compensation, the "future now" of the franchise forward concept is diluted by lack of prestige. This is true if they take Hedman as well, since he is not a forward.

It would be the equivalent of getting a big home run hitter, or fireball pitcher in baseball. They don't even have to know anything about them, just that they have lofty expectations.

Tavares has great potential but a strong 6' 6" is a greater need.

Jealous Ranger fan. How about the Rangers? Are you happy with Messrs. Drury, Nasland, Gomez and the "great" Wade Redden. I hope so, because the Rangers are stuck with them. Overpriced non-productive players it's part of the Ranger tradition. How else Ranger fan do you explain one championship in 69 years.

No, I actually had Islander season tickets from the start up until the mid 80s... When you've been there and you look at the last 10 years , it kind of turns you off.... I still like to watch a good hokey game , but the sport has changed for the worse in my view.... They don't allow the things they used to... I also hate when a player thinks he's tough with a shield on his face... He should get tossed if he drops his gloves, and not the shield... Im glad your a fan, don't get me wrong... I just like the old version !!

Funny how herrman liken Tavares to Spezza...Spezza should have been the Isles last #1 pick! Instead we got Floppy the loser in net! Lets hope the Isles do not repeat with another major gaff!

Wrong Islander draft screw up, you are thinking of the trade for Yashin from Ottawa for our number 2 overall pick which became Spezza AND Zedno Chara, remember him?

The other screw up was when we WON the draft in 2000 by gift from God going #5 to #1, and chose an unknown goalie in place of Gaborik or Heatley.

Just think, if the isles had a real GM instead of Milbury we could have had a team of Chara, Heatley or Gaborik, Spezza, and Zack Parise somewhere in our system. Instead we got Yashin (run out of town), Dipietro (potentially done for good), and Frans Nielsson (chosen over Parise and never heard from again). Sound like a stanley cup contender to you?

I usually think Herrmann is a mile off, but this time he's spot on. It's not just about a player who will score. Tavares is also about marketing. He's 18 and already internationally known. This gets the Isles commercials, besides "Parts Authority".

Don't blow it. Do the correct thing and draft Tavares. Taking a chance and trading down is just dumb. The plan has been to build around youth. Trading the #1 draft pick to TO for a package centering around Jason Blake to relive his 1 glory year seems too possible.

Draft Tavares & continue with the plan to build around a solid core of young players. If you bring him, it makes signing UFAs easier, as they can see the team is heading in a positive direction. Trade down, and the one word that sticks in the minds of UFAs is "DOWN". A last place team doesn't have far down to go, but that would do it.

Listen to the trade offers, so you know who is on the block for later dates. But then Draft Tavares.

Finally. I like to think that Snow is a smart man and will pick Tavares. If he doesn't ISLES fans will surely want his head. We need OFFENSE.

Listen you racist piece of ****, the Rangers will lose again just like they always do and your high priced free agents will be a waste of money, that's the point. The Isles are finally done trying to copy the Rags and are building their team the right way. Instead of hiding behind your computer why don't you go over to the Marriot for lunch next year between Isles practices and tell Okposo he's a monkey to his face you coward.
Gee, I thought I was the only one who noticed the racial overtones of "okpososamonkey". I guess I'm not alone. I can only imagine what this guy thinks of Caddylak Barrack.

Hedman might be the better pick...but I have to agree with Hermman...and I hate to. Tavares has the name recognition to help in many ways.

But a 6'6" D who can skate?! I would take Hedman..
