Just as a side note, both Steve Yzerman & Brett Hull,(along with Luc Robitaille & Brian Leetch), were selected to the Hall of Fame. Duchene has been compared to Yzerman while Tavares has been compared to Hull. Both have over 500 goals, multiple Cup Rings & reputations as one of the all-time greats.

I'm sure whoever the Isles pick will be a very good player. However, it's the system around that player as well as the management that will determine whether that player truly achieves "greatness". Yzerman was blessed to have a system that found & developed great talent in later rounds,(Lidstrom), great scouting to find gems,(Fedorov), and management that was bold enough to trade for impact players,(Shanahan). Hull wasn't as lucky at first. He was given up on early by Calgary & traded to the Blues, who got rid of his biggest playmaker,(Adam Oates), and whose management argued with & criticized Hull on several occasions. It was only after Hull went to places like Dallas & Detroit, which had great management & a great system for its players, did he win his Cups & cement his legacy.

Just like Rome wasn't built in a day. The Isles won't be built with just one player, whether it be Duchene, Tavares, Hedman, Crosby, Ovechkin, Gretzky, Orr, Howe or Hobey Freaking Baker.

Wang and Snows plan is to trade down to,say 10th.The 22,000 plus fans then burn the coliseum down and destroy it to rubble.Wang gets his new arena by default and insurance money. It is a brilliant plan.

They should pick Taveres, either way though, if wang isnt planning on spending more then the miniumum till he gets a new building up and running, you can kiss goodbye any chance of the isles doing anything other then come in last place the next three years. Tavares will leave first chance at free agent if he has half a brain...loyalty is one thing. Loyalty to losers is another thing altogether

The smart choice is Hedman, we´ve seen top picks fizzle out before and Bossy was a 15th pick remember that. Don´t be a fashion statement and think just because Travares scored 50.60,70 in the minors that it translates to the NHL. I´ll take a new Chara at 6´6" anyday and let Bailey and Oposko and other do the scoring.

eastonhockey22 is right. Does it matter who Garth choses? One player isn't going to make the Isles better. Def and goal ned to be fixed also.

I would like to see Tavares, but I think Duchene is more of a two way player that would fit into the system better. It's gonna be a rough call and I wouldn't want to be Garth on friday.Wang has been losing money and Tavares would sell some seats at full price and fill the building.

Garth traded down last year to get the playmaking 2 way center in Bailey. Now is the time to get the sniper. We need Tavares. The Isles didn't have a 20 goal scorer last year. They have too many Baileys and Duchenes. They need someone to put the puck in the net.

If a potential 40-50 goal scorer doesn't fit into Gordo's system then guess what? His system is flawed and Gordo needs to go. Just because someone is a two way foward doesn't mean he is always a good fit. All we have is 2 way fowards(Park, Hilbert, etc.) we don't need anymore. Don't believe the hype with Duschene the guy had 3/4's of a good season in the OHL. Taveras's numbers and his don't even compare. Duschene was not chosen to play in the WJC while Taveras was the MVP. Taveras's defensive game has done nothing but improve since he was traded to London.

JOHN TAVARES!!!!

Yes-I cant wait!!

Snow has deceitfully used language to keep people guessing. But he knows he is drafting Tavares.

Is this draft party BYOB?

Draft Taveras and then try to trade up to number #3 and get two of the top 3. I know that is pretty much impossible but it is nice to dream. we have doing it for a long time now. its time to get quality. we have enough quantity!!

The Islanders have no choice but to draft John Tavares. With Tavares suddenly the Islanders will have an identity amongst other NHL teams and even within the NY sports scene. All he has to do is deliver right away or else he's just another guy playing for the Islanders.

I bet you there's not 5000 people at the coliseum for the draft party-

After years of misery, of course the Isles finally land the #1 pick in a year with NO consensus #1. Of course they will pick the wrong guy, and of course we will stink again. Been that way since Bow-tie Torrey left. We'll probably pick another goalie...and we've seen how well thats worked out...how's Luongo doing these days, oh possibly the best goalie on the planet. Well DiPetro sure does look good sitting in sitting in a suit recovering from yet another injury.

I hate to pee in your cornflakes Islander fans (20,000 ? Really?....) but you KNOW this circus of an organization is gonna figure out a way to screw this up, some way, somehow.......after all, this is the Islanders we're talking about.
