Maybe you should rewatch the 1st ten minutes of the 3rd period again.
Maybe you should understand that the Wings are the best team in the NHL at present.Maybe you should understand that they took the play away from us. Maybe you should understand with a 2 goal lead you don't get into a wide open game against the Wings, you play them close and take advantage if them when the get caught pressing. Maybe you should understand Q just may know how to coach hockey. Maybe you should understand we took the Wings to a dead heat and lost on a skills contest of penalty shots. Maybe you should understand how disappointed we are that we didn't win but it sure as heck wasn't from lack of effort by the guys. GO HAWKS.

I guess we should all be happy now that home games are being televised, except for the fact that really they are not. All these WGN tilts are not going out on the superstation and hence are unavailable on most satellite and cable systems. Rocky Wirtz and WGN, fix this please!
Wirtz and 'GN have nothing to do with this...It's all Bettman and NHL TV policies on this one..I agree with you though it sucks...

Finally, some real competition for the Wings in the Central division... I was getting tired of whipping on StL & Nashville. Glad to see the Hawks retooling & updating the entire franchise. Bring back the rivalry... plus it's a nice short roadtrip for us Wings fans.

Point 1 I never argued. Point 2 The Wings took away the play because the Hawks were standing flat-footed out there....I watched I remember. What were you doing, obviously your satellite dish fuzzed up huh. Point 3 Maybe YOU should understand that the Hawks acquired the 2 goal lead by playing a wide open game againest them. Point 4 Maybe you should understand Q never won S**T. Your quote "just may know how to coach" sums it all up because he may not know "how to coach". Maybe you should understand in 2 of the last 4 games, 2 goal leads in the 3rd period turned into losses. So Paulie if the players aren't at fault...then it must be your "Q" buddy huh.

Come back when you know at least a little bit about the game and how it is played. Scottie Bowman was instrumental in getting Q as yhe Hawks coach and i certainly am not going to argue against his chioces. We have a young and inexperienced team, especially compared to the Red Wings and to go into the third period leading them by 2 goals is one thing but to try to play a run and gun against them in the third and we would have been blown out of the rink. A conservative and close checking game at that point makes sense. When the Wings took the lead we had to take chances and get aggressive and it worked for us. To try to play them wide open for the entire third period we would have been buried.
We don't have the same talent the Wings have and we played them to a tie with hard work and following the plan of a very good coach. Things are looking up for us this year and we are going to be in the playoffs. We won't win the cup but we will win at least one round and that is a darnsight better then we have done for a long while. We will do it when we get to the point that the scorers are scoring and the checkers are checking and we learn how to hold a silled team in check when we have a lead.At least we are develpoping a style of play and have game plans for each team we face. Remember last night the Wings were forced into penalties by our speed. Had we tried to out gun Datsuk, Zetterburg and the Swedes and play them wide open in the third the success our work got us in the first 2 would have soon been erased.
I will be watching the Hawks in the Playoffs this year because we have a coach that will mould a bunch of kids into a team with a game plan and a winning attitude.

P.S. Last nights Game was a tie not a loss. The extra point was decided on a BS thing called a shootout which was an invention of European hockey. In North America we would rather see a win truly won onthe ice with 2 full teams battling it out.

The Hawks have played the wings better than any team over the last year. Remember we won the season series last year. This year we had a OT loss, we still got a point and that is huge. There are a few things that the Hawks have to improve on, and I still think that they have too much $$ tied up on their goalies.

MI Hawks fan you wrote "Maybe you should understand in 2 of the last 4 games, 2 goal leads in the 3rd period turned into losses" I don't think so lets check that out. They beat the Oil, shutout. They beat Van, lost to St. Loui in OT, and yes they did give that game away in the 3rd. The other game was Phx and we won that game. The 5 game before that was Nashville and they lost that on the shootout. You might be a MI Hawks fan but I am a full season ticket holder, and I go to every game. And when they are away I watch every game.

Also They played poorly the first 6:27 minutes of the 3rd period. Not only was I there but I recorded the game on the DVR and watched it today, the Bears were off. And who wanted to watch the Lions, LOL.

Chico - loved the pic of you and your son, I wish you lived closer we could go out on the ice.

So what are the thoughts on the Hawks new Jersey? I am going to buy one but it is $ 380.00 and I just bought the Campbell one before the convention.

Tim you are one of the longest term fans on the Hawks and you go to every game and see the others on tv. As you say you tape them so you can review them later. I bow to your better insight on last nights game.If you say they played poorly for the first 6.27 of the third I cocede to you. You saw it live and analyized it again on tape so you have a clearer view to base an opinion.
I do stick with my opinion that we are getting better game plans and preperation and Q. will prove to be the guy that moulds a group of game young players into a touggh to play against team. Get ready for the Play offs my man cause we are going to be in that show.

just a couple of comments.

I thought the hawks did lay back a bit in the third and instead of taking it to the wings like they had for most of the first two periods, they seemed to sit back & let the wings come to them - i doubt it was a conscious (or coach's) decision to play like that, it isn't surprising for a young, inexperienced team to fall into that trap and credit detroit for taking full advantage - once they got the first one early, they got on a roll - even the timeout after the tying goal didn't really slow them down.

I will also say that the call that gave the hawks a 5 on 3 on which Kane tied the game was a bit of a gift from what i could see - Cleary's stick did make contact with the midsection of the hawk player (I think it was Kane), but I don't think Cleary impeded him in any way.

In any case, it was another good solid effort by the Hawks and they can take away the fact they stayed with the Cup champs stride for stride (aside from 10 minutes in the 3rd).

As for the shootouts, Havlat & Kane obviously have the necessary skill to do better than they have this season and the hawks have other skill guys I wouldn't mind seeing given a shot - like campbell & byfuglien.

If they aren't practicing shootouts every practice, they most certainly should be. lundquist on the rangers takes shootouts during the pre-game warm-ups and his record is one of the best among goalies...

I was, initially, bent out of shape by the loss, but, replayed the DVR and feel a little better.
I still hate the shootout! Win or lose with the whole compliment on the ice.
Remembering that I'm something of a fringe fan, I think that the Hawks have the talent to play all three periods at a high level. If you're aggressive with kids that are as smart as ours, in the third period, you'll force the Deadwings to play in their own zone most of the game. The third period, with any letdown at all, the Wings will turn on the experience and start to catch little errors at your blue line, and take it straight to the net, for one example.
The kids ran the Wings to a frenzie from the mid-point of the first through the second period. They were being the new Blackhawks. Then in the third, they reverted to the old Blackhawks, with a lot of wheeling around the center ice and acting like they were penalty killing. Mind you, it wasn't exactly that bad, but, I had that feeling that we were the lesser club then. Up 'til the third we were a better club at both ends of the ice.
I thought the refs were biased toward the Blackhawks, for a change and was very surprised at how easy the Wings took it. Kane's five-on-three goal shouldn't be given a lot of credit, but all the others were just what I had hoped we would be able to do, this season.
The one sure thing we can figure on, this year, is that every negative that goes on, in progressive games, adds to the list of things learned and not to be repeated. I hope that shootout shooting is one of those.
In any case, I am still thrilled with our kids and see that there are very few, if any, losers on this team. I don't see them looking hangdog, while down a goal or two, and seem impatient to get on the ice and rectify the situation as a team.
Toews is getting closer. Don't press. Just keep doing what you've done since you got here. Put out your best effort every minute you're on the ice and the goals will start piling up.

"They're OUR kids, damnit!"
