True fact that not many people are aware of: My friend Gonzo and I first started the tradition of cheering during the National Anthem that Tim points out back in 1985 and can prove it. The Hawks lost two brutal games in Edmonton and came back for game 3 in Chicago. Gonzo and I had seats 3 rows of the ice in the corner where the Oiler wives sat. What many people don't realize is that we started booing the Canadian National Anthem first. The Oiler wives looked at us with disgust and we just told them "your husbands are standing between us and a Stanley Cup so if booing your anthem sets the tone...so be it!" We then started cheering as soon as the the US anthem started and everyone around us joined in until the entire Chicago Stadium was roaring. True story. Someone can ask Paul Coffey's wife to verify our story. She could not believe what she witnessed that night. Here Come The Hawks!

Regarding bringing people back, you have to mention Pat Foley. He is and will always be the voice of the Hawks.

"He scorrrrrrrrrrrrres!" Way to go Marty!

I believe the incredibly WRONG Mike is talking about the supposed Goal- Tender interference. When Player A (Ladd) Gets PUSHED Into the opposing Goaltender By a Dumb A S S From his own team it is NOT Interference. It was the right NO CALL!!

Go HAWKS!

Please stop mentioning the crowd noise. I live 800 miles away in Charleston, SC and had to watch the game on TV. I wish I could have attended last night's (or any night's) game. The crowd reminded me of the old days. Go Hawks!!

Thanks for the background info. I remember that '85 series with Edmonton very well. The Hawks got pasted 11-2 and 7-3 in Edmonton, and the local press up there were saying things like the Oilers were going to set a record for # of goals scored in a 4 game series.

When the series returned to Chicago Stadium,(I had to listen on the radio w/ Pat and Dale) I recall the crowd being charged like I'd never heard it before. The Hawks won that game - 5-2 - and went on to make a good series against one of the greatest teams of all time....

Thanks again for the background info....

Pat truly is awesome. The only downside to being at the UC last night was not being able to hear Pat's call as the Hawks won it. Maybe NHL.com has Pat on the call.

This tradition is uniquely Chicago, envied by sports teams everywhere, applauded by members of the military, and was started by the fans. There is nothing even remotely disgusting about that.

I have been a hawks fan since the 85 season and I cant recall a time when the crowed was ever louder then after that OT Havlat goal.

Being a loyal Hawks fan for the last 24 years I gotta say that was a real treat after the last 13 seasons of bottom feeding.

The Hawks are back!

I also gotta say the Hawks played really poorly for the majority of the game but found a way to win and thats what good teams do. If the Hawks can win Saturday and split in Calgary they will be in fantastic shape. I just dont want the Hawks to take a 3-1 or 3-0 lead in the series and get too comfortable though.

Bear in mind if the Canadian national anthem is booed by our own fans the guys like Toews,Seabrook, Keith, Campbell,Bolland and others are Canadians.I would suggest however that during the run for the cup the guys on the team lose nationality and identify themselves as HAWKS!!!!!!!!!
