Claude Lemieux

Jacobs: Lemieux Back On The Ice

Full story: Hartford Courant

T he ifs always have been there for us, haven't they? If Claude Lemieux doesn't go high to the glove side on Mike Liut at 5:55 of overtime, Kevin Dineen thinks of something grand.

i await the day when not one person involved with sports at the courant saw a whalers game. i hate these pathetic whiny stories. they are gone and will never return. if we still had a team, a story like this would be appropriate, but for someone like jacobs, it's an easy rehash of something he has written about 100 times. yake some vitamins jacobs, maybe you can get off your rear end and write about something relevant.

That's become par for the Courant. Whiny articles in every department. It was bad enough when the editorials and so-caled human interest stories are laden with sob-sister reminiscences, but when it hits the sports pages, it's gone way too far.

Tip for the Courant: You're in tough financial times. Dump Jacobs and no one will care.

This revisionist history is too much. Andrew Cassels was on a freakin breakaway in OT and missed the net completely. That was the turning point. Anyway, long live the Whale. Hartford is way more deserving of a franchise than Atlanta or Phoenix.

Revisionist history would be placing Andrew Cassels on a breakaway in that 1986 game when he wasn't even drafted until the 1987 entry draft (by the Canadiens, by the way). However, Claude Lemieux is hardly responsible for the Whalers leaving. Mismanagement of the team on and off the ice and a lack of regard for the fans had much more to do with that. I still say that if that series had been on free TV though, instead of the premium SportsChannel, hockey would have had a much greater chance of surviving here.

Thanks for the clarification. I must be having a brain freeze and not thinking straight as it minus 38F with the wind chill here today.

All this crap on the posts reminds me of when I tell people I was at the original Woodstock. The only people who appreciate it were the ones who were there themselves. Everybody else wants to diminish it because they choose not to go or were too young or not born yet. They can't admit that something great occurred because they weren't a part of it. Guess it's all about them.
It also reminds me of Whalers Appreciation Night back on 01/6/06, when I was shocked to find some Wolfpack fans actually angry, feeling that their AHL arena had been hijacked. And when Brass Bonanza got played, they got even more angry. Go figure.

GREAT POST JEFF, AND AL I TOO LOVED THE WHALERS, WHEN I FOUND OUT HOCKEY WAS COMING TO HARTFORD I SENT IN FOR TICKETS THE FIRST DAY AND GOT ROW 1 SEATS A&B. LATER I GOT A JOB AS A DISC JOCKEY AND JEFF JACOBS THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR AT THAT TIME ASKED AT A MEETING WHO WOULD LIKE TO COVER THE WHALERS FOR WINF. I FLEW OUT OF MY CHAIR AND GOT THE JOB. SO I HAD TWO SEATS ON THE ICE AND ONE IN THE PRESS BOX. MY JOB AS "FRED BELL" FOR WINF WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST TIMES IN MY LIFE. STILL LIKE TO FOLLOW ANY OLD NEWS AND IT GETS MY JUICES RUNNING. AGAIN JEFF, THANKS FOR THE POST AND AL THANKS FOR YOUR ALSO. NUMBER 1 WHALER FAN IN DAYTONA BEACH FLORIDA

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Scorpio

Let the past stay in the past for now. Even though you may have fond memories of intense experiences, the Virgo Moon sees to it that you have virtually no desire to go there again just yet. This is your opportunity to show others what you can do in a more civilised environment. Don't try to shout down someone who is rude enough to interrupt. As unlikely as it may seem, the softest voice has the biggest chance of being heard today.
