cheap clueless ownership. McConnell and his bunch have no shred of interest in winning or improving this team. McConnell and is band of buddies stood by and watched a team they all knew could not win, and did not do one thing to improve it until it was long past too late. McConnell now has a nine season track record of showing he does NOT CARE about winning and DOES NOT CARE about the fans. Its called a cheap majority owner. Nine long losing seasons offer solid proof of what this CBJ fan feels about his CBJ

It would have helped if they had somebody in charge of hockey operations(position Mike priest holds). The jackets would be better off If they would have had somebody that could have reined in Doug Mclean we(jacket fans) might have had some of the player/ players mentioned in the article.Or maybe not the price might have been to steep for there pocket book.

Short answer: NO. Until the BJ's entire front office is cleaned out and real professionals are brought in; the BJ's will contine to live up to high standard of the team name acronym.

I don't understand the last sentence of the column "It won't be long before the only people who remember the love affair between the club and city are the fans and former players." I wish Portzline, instead of walking down memory lane, would realize that maybe the incompetence of the original leadership has led to this mess and maybe, just maybe, competent new blood is what is desperately needed ?

I see our glowing 'local' hockey reporter skipped right over the Filatov pick. That was Howson pure and simple. He has been at the helm long enough. Picking the proverbial "best player available" regardless of team need will ALWAYS result in failure for a cap team. We have specific needs at the draft each year and the GM has to have the backbone to STICK TO THE PLAN. This year the need at the draft is to trade the pick for immediate help. The time clock expired last year. We are now on life support. One more failure and this team just goes away and that wold be terrible as this city will never have a major league sports franchise EVER again. Do you really want Howson in control of that?

I am a bit surprised that any discussion of folks who failed in the 2003 NHL Draft would include Atlanta (Braydon Coburn and Tobias Enstrom) but exclude the New York Rangers (best player gained - Nigel Dawes - is currently in the KHL).

But I guess that got in the way of the point AP wanted to make.
