"I think the way we play is the way we were built, and if we had to make all these guys into checkers and play a trap game, I think it would have been a pretty boring team to watch, and we wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful as we were."
Sounds like an indictment of old-fashioned Hitch hockey.

The quote is from the Caps coach who's team, quite frankly, wasn't all that successful playing a run-and-gun style of game. Hitch had to try and make a silk purse out of a sow's ear in Columbus.

I didn't mean the quote was necessarily an indictment of Hitch himself. I meant the pre-lockout neutral zone trap which has been sold to the people of Columbus as "Hitch hockey."
Now that you mention it though, it is an indictment of Hitch in a way because, while Hitch didn't have the level of talent that Washington does as you mention, he did try and fit players into a system instead of building/using a system that fit his players which is not the way to run a team for success according to the quote. I don't however think Boudreau was specifically calling out Hitch, but we can apply what he said to our own situation here.
