Yes, sir! Yaouza! Yesiree!

Kane scores. Toews scores. Burish gets clean up goal upfront. Awesome goaltending. That's what we expect, need, got most of the first half and would like to see continue.

Line shake ups good and maybe over due. That Sharp to Keith to Toews scoring play: beautiful. And always liked Havlat with Kane. Where does Versteeg go when he gets back?

We knew this stretch after the all star game, with 11 of 12 on the road, was the biggest test of the season -- knew it would really show us what they're made of. So far so good. Yes, sir! Lookin good! Keep it up!

That shortie at the end of the 2nd period had all the feel of a game changing moment but the boys came out strong at the start of the 3rd and made a one goal lead stand up on the road. Awesome.
Get this game tonight so we can go into San Jose on a roll and not feeling like the fate of the road trip is on the line.

I'm bummed. My scenario is off on the wrong foot. Supposed to be loss by minor error, blown out of proportion by the unknowing, enraging the kids to the point that they sweep the remaining 7 games. So what do they do? Go and win the first one and do it with all the pieces working right! Bummer.

Seriously, Khabby gets a big one for the job he did. They were much more effective in our zone than we were in theirs. If not for stellar goaltending, the result would be different.

Not that the kids didn't take it to them - they did and right from the first drop. Aside from his goal, Burish was an effective antagonist, all night. Kaner, Sharp, Toews, Keith, Havlat, Bolland, Ladd were, at least, effective the entire time on the ice. Matt Walker was at his best, last night and that ain't bad. The rest of the defense did its job very well (OK they got caught bunched up on the PP and it cost them, but the best have breakdowns now and again).

Snippet: Khabby giving the Ducks goosing with his stick, in the crease, and then the "raspberries" after the whistle. I don't think I've ever seen him that animated.
Keith playing conservative, for him, and looking like he hadn't been off the ice for more than a shift.
Eager, all of a sudden, looks like a roman candle, wherein he is frenetic for two minutes, then looks tired for the rest of that shift. I hadn't noticed that before.
Matt Walker, shown on the bench, while Eddie was giving him Kudos for doing an outstanding job and shunning the glory while doing it. Another one of the reasons I have pride in calling this team, of kids, mine.

and .....

"They're OUR kids, damnit!"

BMF, two good observations, especially the last. We really gotta get that win tonight so losing to SJ won't put us 1-3 on the trip. Going to SJ at 2-0 will allow the boys to plays free and loose and maybe we slay Goliath. But worried about the back to backs on the road. Tonight is huge!

One more thing: Kudos to Walker for jumping on Parros and, quite frankly, getting the best of him. Thought that reall set the tone.

To all you hockey vets:

What did you think about Eddie O. saying that he believed by the end of this trip the Hawks would either be one spot up or one spot down from their current 4th spot?

Wouldn't it be pretty difficult for the Hawks to move up to the 3rd spot? Is it realistic to think we could pass up the Wings?

Your thoughts?

I would have to rewatch the interview, but I recall Eddie saying that whatever position they were in AFTER the road trip was over, they would finish the season one spot up or down from that spot. I believe they will hang on to the 4 spot throughout this trip but I have my doubts about them passing Detroit, which would probably thrust them in the 2 slot.

Perhaps he meant that the Hawks season point total could surpass the Flames, although they couldn't move up a seed unless they passed the Wings (which is not going to happen in these 8 games barring some sort of miraculous meltdown in Detroit), since division leaders are always going to be in the top 3 seeds.

I don't really see them moving down either (knock on wood). That would be pretty rough to blow a 7 point lead in 7 games. Of course I'd like to see that lead extended, but I think if they can come out of this trip where they started it, a 7 point lead in the 4th spot, that would be huge.

Great game last night. I really like the new lines, and Khabby just played outstanding. I would like to see the defense tighten up a bit so our goalies aren't relied upon so much to make a huge save. I was getting a little nervous when the Hawks could not clear the puck out of the D zone for two straight shifts there in the third. Well, enough of my complaining! Great road win, and finally one in Anaheim! Like some previous posters said, tonight's game is huge. The lowly Kings have given the Hawks a lot of trouble in the past.

Great start to a long road trip. I was hoping that they would start off with a win and they did. The goaltending was awesome. Khabby played like an all star, A+ in my book. The Defense for most of the game played very good. In the 3rd period it they did not get the puck out of their zone. I loved the new lines and how they played.

Personally I do not see the Hawks jumping up higher than the 4th spot this year. The Hawks are good but I just don't see them passing the wings.

As of 11:44 am Eastern, the Trib online still has no mention of the Blackhawks. Plenty on the lousy Bulls, but nothing about a team that actually means something.

Seems to me the line changes as written up in yesterday's paper did not come off as advertised. For a good portion of the 2nd and 3rd periods(the two periods I was able to watch) it was the Ladd/Bolland/Havlat line left intact while Kane was teamed with Toews and Sharp. Whatever works is fine with me, but was this intentional deception by Coach Q, a mid-game line juggle, or just bad reporting by Kuc?

some uber clutch tending by Khabi to finish that game. The Ducks had 6-7 chances in the last 90 seconds alone. They won 5 straight faceoffs. Very lucky they didn't tie it. Good start.

And page 3 in the sports section, without a mention on page 1. Yesterday, driving home the local sports talk spent the whole hour talking about the Bears. Who haven't played a game in a month and aren't going to play another one 'til late summer. Ridiculous!

I live in Indianapolis and switched from AM 670 The Score to AM 1000 only because AM 1000 talks about the Blackhawks!

I don't need to hear about the Bears or baseball in January.

They do try. DeFalco for sure and Jurko know the game. Harry usually lets his Hawk talk end up being about how his daughters play date with Rocky Wirtz's grand daughter went, or some other name dropping tale nobody cares about. I really only listen on my way home from work.

The Bears for me are a 12-months-a-year story, even though they're not good, call it a disease I guess...hot stove league - who cares....Bulls who cares even more, never have....Hawks are the story now. However, 95% of the population does not understand hockey, so little coverage as a result.

OK, you've set me off. I know how you hate when that happens. ;-)

The whole sports media sludge pond is really aggravating me.

Here's the base problem: The "kids" are good citizens and keep their mouths shut, except for interviews, where they barely talk about whatever they did to garner the interview, rather recognize all the things that made it possible to draw the attention. The media HATES this.(A quotation from an interview they appreciated: "Ya, I done some great things, out there Marvin!!!" Picture any one of the kids describing THEMSELVES in that fashion. Gag me with with a spoon!!)

The Blackhawks, and the organization that fills out the franchise, are a snooze fest, as far as the way things work. No big wrangle between one component and the other. Draft day comes and goes without breathless updates every three minutes, let alone the invented over-hype for months beforehand.

The kids, on the ice, are REAL athletes, that have to manage more than one skill the entire time they are on the ice. The other sports team's players can't manage the ONE skill they're overpaid for!

(Hang on, I'm just getting started)

The media gives the rottenest team in town, more coverage out of season than they give the best team in town, IN SEASON!!!(Oh, that's right, they might be reading this: the best team in town is THE MIGHTY DAMN BLACKHAWKS!)

That's OK. I think it's pretty cool to be inside to a real fact, that the most exciting events in town, or out for that matter, come because Rocky knew what had to happen and made sure it happened right! The result: OUR team, our sport, our kids

and ...

"They're OUR kids, damnit!"
