All Islanders need to do is follow Rays' model

There are 29 comments on the Newsday story from Oct 24, 2008, titled All Islanders need to do is follow Rays' model. In it, Newsday reports that:

The Islanders are basically hockey's version of the Tampa Bay Rays , circa any year from 1998-2007. They're young, painfully bad and they play before too many empty seats in a thoroughly outdated arena.

The Islanders have been to four of the last six playoffs and it would have been five if not for all the injuries last year.

Baumbach like Johnette Howard can only go the baseball route.

It took twenty response for one Islander fan to finally see through Baumbach's game.

The NHL version of the Rays? Haven't we endured enough already? This is a team which hasn't made it out of the 1st round of the play-offs in 15 years. Over that time we haven't drafted well and with an inexperienced back-up goalie as GM and a crazy owner who lnows nothing about hockey, constantly meddling, the future is bleak. Unless we get intervention from the league or divine, nothing will change.

Someone please tell Mr. Bettman hockey on Long Island is worth saving.

Agree with many-they actually pay this guy to write this crap?! Dallas is a legit Stanley Cup contender. Second-you cant compare building a baseball team to building a hockey team. Thats for another topic....

As a diehard Isles fan-they looked terrible. Granted Dallas is solid-but the Isles showed no heart, no grit, weak passes, weak shots. I'll defend this team when it plays hard-
The other night was a joke!

Nothing less than a last place finish and John Taveras picked with the number one pick in next years draft and this season is a failure.

I like to think of the Islanders more as the Pittsburgh Pirates of Hockey. Well, actually not that good.

The Rays took 10 years to get good. Don't follow their model. I've noticed the Islanders often have good head coaches and bad general managers, and the bad general managers always fire the good coaches. (Nolan, Laviolette). Following any plan is not a good idea if the plan comes from a bad general manager.

I can't help but think that Charles Wang will sell this team and they will move off of Long Island. Its hockeys version of the baseball movie "Major League". Are they still going to make improvements to the Nassau Coliseum? Garth Snow gathers a bunch of has-beens and mixes them with minor league talent.
