I can now see why Ted Nolan and Garth Snow had philosophical differences last year. Nolan must've wanted to win.

Couple of things:
a) the word is "privilege"
b) Snow has never offered long contracts such as that to anyone and there is no reason to believe that he will at this point. Those insane deals were brokered directly by Charles Wang and he would likely be in full control of any such negotiation in the future.
Aside from that I don't think the Isles can really go wrong with Tavares or Hedman. I don't agree with tanking a season or routing for my team to lose at any point but I will still gladly take one of those 2 guys as a consolation prize.
You're probably right about Wang being the guy responsible for the stupid DP deal, but just as bad is Snow sitting there with Wang's wang in his mouth watching it happen without saying anything to Wang and just letting him do it- Don't stick up for Garth Snow...he's just as guilty as Wang for the DP debacle-

BINGO....that's exactly the differences Snow and Nolan had with one another- Snow wanted to "build" so he could have some long term job security- Nolan wanted to win NOW.

agreed, worst game in awhile. then again I have watched them blow several 2 & 3 goal leads and those were disturbing to watch.
comrie is a bust. although I am glad he fought.
the only worthy isles worth keeping:
hunter
okposo
streit
comeau (?)
bailey (?)
park (?)
bergenheim (?)
Why would you put a question mark on Richard Park? He's definitely worth keeping. Best special teams player on the team. It stinks that he's out for a month though.

As for the team. 40 pts after 58 games is embarrassing, they have potential but as someone said, all those games where they blew 2-3 goal leads and blew them hurt them. They lost valuable points there and if they learned to protect those leads, especially in the final 20 minutes, they would've maybe been in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Coaching- Getting rid of Nolan was bad considering his experience, but if I were GM, I'd maybe consider getting Laviolette back. Good coach (brought them from 90s laughing stocks to respectability in his years here) and has a Stanley Cup to his resume (good job Milbury).

You must have forgotten the Pittsburgh game :)
ahh no I didn't genius-that was the premise of the story "not since the blowout against pittsburgh on dec 11..." I believe the score was 9-2. thanks for the comment NYRfan, I mean closet Islander fan...:-)

you are right-he hustles every night and has won me over. I actually like him. I am just sick of these 4th line guys that have brick hands or get knocked around in the corners. we have like 3 4th lines already! you are right, I would probably keep him & yes he will be missed the next 4 weeks.

nice to see a fellow fan throw out insight.
But I respectfully disagree.
We have only touched the potential of KO. He is still learning. Plus once he gets bigger and plays a bit more physical...he'll be a force. 1st line player all the way. Maybe captain one day.
Bailey-His game over the last month has improved greatly. Snow showed great patience trading down...getting more picks and getting a player like Bailey. Again-needs to get bigger and add the physical part to his game. He is a boy amongst men. He'll be a great asset on the power play.
Tamby-hard to defend his play...
Nielsen-totally disagree with you. Im not saying he'll be a big-time scorer but watch out for him next year.
Comeau-maybe a fourth-line guy-when plays physical he plays well. But he has a bright future.
Hillen-He still makes a ton of mistakes. Too early to give up on.
Jackman-cant lose him. great 4th liner!
Campoli-has played sooo much better the last month. He will flourish in this system.
Gervais-he gets pushed around too much.
Mike-its tough to evaluate some of these guys because the lines have been juggled so much. It'll be great next year once some of these guys can play together more and get to know each others tendencies. I believe next year will be a fun year to watch this team develop. I just hope DP can get his health issues past him.
dude-you are being too nice. campoli is not a good D. you are right on about gervais. in fact, they all get knocked around.
and enough of DP already!
I agree-okposo is the real deal...I hope!

Rumors have Ryan Smyth available from the Avalanche. Want to try him again? Only Joking! Lots of draft choices the last two years. Where are they all? Is there a diamond in the rough out there somewhere? Any chance Petrov being here next season? I'll be very amazed if any other team wants the garbage on this team by trade deadline.

They justed traded him...

Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced the club has acquired centre Mike Comrie and defenceman Chris Campoli in exchange for centre Dean McAmmond and the San Jose Sharks' 2009 first-round draft pick, obtained from the Tampa Bay Lightning in August 2008.

Seriously? If we get a 1st round pick in TB's position in the draft then that's pretty awesome. If TB won the lottery then the Isles could have Tavares AND Hedman.(Unless the pick acquired from TB also wasn't their own.)

Okay, I've seen various stories affirming this. It's still unclear whether that is definitely a pick from TB's draft order or if it originated somewhere else but this could be huge.

Excellent trade.

TB acquired the SJ pick then flipped it to OTT who in turn have now flipped it to NYI.

Ah... okay... not nearly as good. But I still like the move. I think I was reading it the other way because of wishes.

Watch Justin Dibenedetto and Matt Martin on the Sarnia Sting, whom we drafted in '08. They're both developing well and could see time at Bridgeport or on the Isles next year. Justin is 2nd to Tavares in goals and he's already Islander property. Martin is the next Bertuzzi; he's a bulldozer with good hands.
