Roots & Branches: Mormon website integrates records, background info
Full story: Lebanon Daily News
Good to know! Do the Mormons accept a plethora of century-old primary documents related to one family (diaries, letters from the "Old 'country, from WWII, etc) but that reflect a universal experience of immigrants and the people they left behind?
See what I mean at www.familyarchaeologist.com
just the tip of the iceberg.
One additional note: the indexing of the digitized records must be done by hand; a human being must read the record and type in some basic info in order to allow the original record to be included in searches online. This is a volunteer effort, and any and all who wish to help out are welcome. Records are indexed twice, and then arbitrated by a trained volunteer who checks for accuracy and clarity.
As someone who has indexed various types of records, and helped with technical support for those involved in the effort in my congregation, it can be a lot of fun, and surprisingly addictive. Even teenagers are hooked--and this is FAR better entertainment than gaming. ;o)
