The intrigue of nature's little pilots
#1 Apr 26, 2010
Great, fun story! With regard to hummingbird feeders, I was told to never boil sugar water due to an alleged change in its chemical composition.? Rather, first boil the water, then add sugar. Mix 1 part sugar (WHITE CANE ONLY) to 4 to 5 parts water. In fact, boiling the water isn't even necessary unless you suspect it's not pure enough, like my sulfur-laden well water. When the mixture in the feeder starts turning cloudy (or before), empty it, clean it, and refill it.
