I go first. I hate subtitles. Subtitles are annoying. Why do people like subtitles better than dubs? They're ruining the anime broadcasts in the US. Why? America really needs to focus on anime dubs here. I can't stand subtitles. Bring back anime promos America and bring back American anime commercials. I hate Bakugan commercials. Why can't anime be big in the US? Stupid subtitles. Down with subtitles. Even Cartoon Network hates anime like Pokemon too. That's why Cartoon Network is going downhill. Bring back anime promos Cartoon Network. Stupid TV nowadays. Show more anime dubs, America. Good thing subtitles is illegal in American TV broadcasts. Now, save the anime dubs. No more subtitles.

I hate English dub.

I need the actual Japanese voice so I can get the emotional intonation as it was meant to be.

Besides that, I absolutely abhor the absurd choices of voice over actors that these idiot American dubbers too often cast.

I will NEVER understand why they can't resist their asinine urges, such as sometimes using absurd accents, like Irish, Italian, or Whatever type voice, when clearly a straight 'vanilla' American accent is the ONLY thing that could ever possibly suffice.

Grr. I hate subtitles are better than dubs appearance. Foreign marketing hates anime marketing and foreign marketing in America. Foreign marketing only likes foreign marketing in America like international Disney marketing I'm sick and tired of people saying subtitles are better than dubs. Bring back United States anime marketing. So if you prefer subtitles over dubs, watch the subtitles anime online and stop complaining about subtitles. Seriously, ignore this thread and be happy. This thread is for people who wants more TV anime dubs as well as getting upset over subtitles. Thank you.

A few points on both sides of the argument.

Um... New Days? You're kind of beating yourself down.

Bakugan and Pokemon are two of the most well known, and most popular English Dubbed anime ever,(although I have to agree, I hate Bakugan and the new Pokemon)so why shoot them down? I know they're Japanese in origin, but almost every anime starts in Japan. Why else do you think Anime is still so unpopular in America?

Curious Me: Yes, a lot of voices in English dubbed anime are horrible (CCS vs. CardCaptors, Patty from Lucky Star, and Naruto's voice is also somewhat annoying.) But what they're trying to get across is that the Subtitles are annoying in their own right. And depending on how well the subtitles are translated and making sure they're a good size, but don't distract from the show, they can be good or bad.

Either way, Subtitles and Dubs have their own merits, but mostly it depends on what you're watching and how well it's pulled off.

Well duh. The English anime voices are horrible. But I still enjoy listening to the English anime voices. Anyway, I agree with you that Pokemon dubs are unstoppable of all anime dubs. It would be great if Cartoon Network wants to start treating anime dubs really well again. I miss TV dubbed anime programs. Subtitled anime is getting on my nerves. That's why dubbed anime needs more TV performances here. I'm sick and tired of subtitled anime shows. Good thing Pokemon aired so well in America. America needs to treat Pokemon very well so kids can watch Pokemon. Screw subtitled anime. Dubbed anime forever.

Well, maybe if Pokemon was still as good as it was in the first season, then it wouldn't be too bad.

But seeing how they've totally fucked it (and every other Anime on TV)up to make it more "Kid Friendly" I hate most mainstream dubbed anime, most of which are what you're using as an argument.

So, needless to say, I think we're gonna be arguing for awhile.

I agree with pokemaster, it depends on the dub or subs.Though at times I do find subtitles annoying, but its interesting to hear the Japanese voices. But one of the main reasons I sometimes prefer dubs over subs is to hear the english voices. And if its good and I like the voices I would like the meet the voice actor or actress. It makes it all the while for going to anime conventions in America.Though subs are useful, sometimes they cut stuff out in the english anime. For example, have you seen 4kids? They ruined the animes they had, they cut a lot of parts out.Did you know the Yu-Gi-Oh series was suppose to have cuss words and murder?

Yeah, I want ALL my cussing, murdering, mayhem, and (((NUDITY))).

Heh heh...

there's this asinine anime, on Hulu®™, named "FREEZING", that's had all of the nudity redacted(just about every scene), so it can be shown to children, but it's all about slashing guts, and chopping off limbs, none, of which, has been edited out.

=O Wow, I hate how they do that, if you don't want kids to watch it then don't even try! They know there are other animes that are kid appropriate.Like Bakugan, I use to watch Bakugan, it would be better if they didn't give them weird voices.Especially Runo, she's always loud, and Dan sounds awkward at times. And when they talk sometimes they freakin' pause for at least 5 seconds then continue. And then I look at Yu-Gi-Oh, they actually kill each other over card games. So now I'm going to wath it in subs.Geez, some companies want to ruin it for people!

I'm back. Wow, I hate subtitled anime. First of all, anime dubbing marketing campaign have been suffered from their profits. Remember the poor US economy? That's why anime dubbing companies needs to save money until the economy rises up again. Dubbing companies should not do subtitles at all. Why are the dubbing companies doing subtitles? This is why subtitled anime should be banned. Without subtitled anime, dubbed anime has been saved. TV channels like Cartoon Network is suppose to air dubbed anime shows most of the time like One Piece. Especially in the mornings and afternoons. Good thing Pokemon is still on TV. That's because Pokemon season 14 did very well on Cartoon Network thanks to the big success of Pokemon Black and White. But now, Hulu is doing subtitled anime. What the fart? That hurts anime's international dubbing marketing campaign. Subtitled anime has to go. Why? Because dubbed anime needs more advertising screentime. Keep in mind that this is for dub lovers only though. Since alot of people hate dubs, it's their opinion. All people's opinions are different though. No more subtitled anime. If subtitled anime goes downhill, now is their chance to put dubbed anime go back on television as long the economy goes up again. Long live the dubs (including TV dubs).:)

Well I wouldn't say subtitled anime needs to go, I mean haven't you seen 4kids? When they dub anime they change most of it, so that's why subtitled anime is good to watch. Also there's people who watch yaoi and yuri, I watch yaoi. And anime dubbing companies don't want to go near it, so I watch it in subtitles.Plus they sound funny when they're trying speak english.

Well that's your opinion. For my opinion, US doesn't know how to control its own US anime industry these days especially Pokemon. US controls US anime appearance is still going downhill. US anime companies don't know how to market anime dubs these days like TV ones. Anime did so poorly overseas these days, anime companies in Japan doesn't know how to market anime overseas. What happened? US hates US anime dubs these days. Global anime marketing perform very poorly thanks to US's very poor anime treatment. Remember so many people watch subtitles over dubs? That's why. I hope to agree with my opinion.:)

Hmm, you have a point, but I know there's a lot of people who still watches dub anime. But the people who prefer subs over dubs are usually japanese wannabe's, so they shouldn't even count. But I'm sure things will get better, I mean there's still good animes in dub.But some are on Adult Swim and Syfy.

WOW!

"Japanese wannabe's"???

That would be rather puerile, I should think.

I doubt, very seriously,

that individuals,

who simply have the ability to absorb, so much more, from the 'full bodied' original textual content, i.e., in terms of tonality, and/or emotionally expressive intent, not to mention a, more often than not, more FAITHFUL translation, of the original script'

would ever tend to be so, lacking in a more FAITHFUL view, of THEMSELVES.

Right. Dubbed anime shows needs more US TV broadcasts performances. Especially Cartoon Network. Why is Disney XD airing Naruto Shippuden? Cartoon Network is dead by having only 3 anime programs. Also, 4Kids are the only anime dubbing company that does TV advertising campaign. That's it. At least Adult Swim do carry anime dubs like Bleach. Yeah, Cartoon Network needs more anime shows like One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh anime shows.
