If you're over 40, without a degree or just stuck up there, get your expenses down and try to start some kind of business to supplement your income. That's pretty much how people survive there long term. It's not a growth environment and it won't be in our lifetime.
If you're a younger guy, borrow or otherwise pool some money together to get education and skills and then go south or west. My initial recommendation would be Charlotte or Atlanta, or possibly Dallas or Phoenix if you don't mind the heat.
