I spent all of this past March driving with my dog through mostly Veracruz and Oaxaca states. I really don't think I'd hesitate to drive anywhere but the border region or, of course, Sinaloa. In 3000 miles of driving through Mexico, I felt safer than in parts of Texas and Oklahoma. Then again, I've been doing it since the early 70's.
