I think mine was DBZ, aired on YTV back in the late 90's.

Actually, it was probably Gatchaman, but I was a very young child back then, but DBZ was my first notable venture into Japanese animation.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 10 years ago and I'm still obsessed. The visuals, all those Orange sunsets, weird camera angles. The music and background noises such as cecaders. All the symbolism, psychology, religion, philosophy. I really liked all the mind trip stuff, especially the last two episodes. The show was dark and disturbed but with just enough humor and pervertedness in the beginging to make it fun.

Also I found it easy to relate to the charactures. Rei always reminded me of Kurt Cobain, Shinji of John Lennon and Asuka of Axl Rose.

Oh yeah, I got a soft spot for Sailor Moon too, but don't most people?

My first "true anime series" was either Inuyasha or Trinity Blood. Since I saw them so close to one another, I can't remember which one I saw first. Of course, neither one was the very first animation series I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, but they were the first animation series I have ever seen that came from Japan.

I watched DBZ and Pokemon when I was younger, but I never considered myself "into" anime until I was in High School. So from there, I started reading DeathNote (which I guess would be my first manga rather than anime) which sort of exposed me to everything.

Strictly speaking, I guess Bleach was my first true anime, and it remains one of my favorites.

Well, before I realized it was an anime, Pokemon. Then Naruto, then came searching for every other anime in the world for good ones that I'd like.

My first anime was Ronin Warriors, way back in the day, followed by Dragon Ball, DBZ, Sailor Moon (regrettably), Cowboy Bebob, and Berzerk. My current obsession is Higurashi When They Cry, great anime, better manga.
