Charismatic former US president Bill Clinton has endorsed Indian-American physician Ami Bera, giving the Democratic Party candidate a big boost in a tight congressional race in Northern California.

The first generation of Indian-Americans may still care much about what is good for India. But Indians like me, raised in a western or quasi-western environment, will care more about life here in the States. I wish India well because they are decent people. But I care about life here in America, and whether the Democratic or the Republican party would be better for India is one of the last concerns on my mind at the ballot box.
