Cleaning house, starting at the top. If Coach More picks up another coaching gig somewhere else let's hope he learned something from this debacle.

Now comes news of the rally held by the suspended playets and their parents in an attempt to get Coach More reinstated. Forget about that notion. The principal has ruled - and she wants to move the football program forward, not keep it stuck in this controversy. The suspended players should be apologizing to the principal, Coach More, and the school community. Also, a 1 - 17 record is not exactly something to crow about. The axe was probably about to fall anyway. Sorry Coach, two seasons passed and your players never quite brought the 'A' game. God knows you tried.

Now, here's some reasoned advice for all parties involved:

Senior football players - concentrate on passing the FCAT and pack your bags for Edison State in the fall. Football scholarships are completely out of the question.

The principal - stay the course you have set. Hire a good assistant coach that is ready for the challenge out of South Fort Myers or from Collier County.

Coach More - now we hear that the refs told NBC-2 News that you were out of control during the game. For starters, adjust your perspective - football is a GAME. If you want to stay in football you will probably have to take a teaching position in Hendry County and work your way up through a middle school program. Or, you can stay in the LCSD and maybe you will be allowed to be an assistant coach for baseball or track, most likely at a school other than Cypress Lake. Be respectful of the officials of whatever sport you are involved in. Impressionable students are looking to you for guidance at all times. Disgrace takes some time and work to scrape off of your reputation. Apologize to the community - your healing starts there. Resolve to never be a bedwetter on the sidelines again.

Parents - how about rallying behind the principal and supporting turning the football program around in a positive direction? C'mon, you can do it! Give Junior some common-sense guidance on sportsmanship while you're at it.

Junior and underclassmen football players - If you commit to rebuilding the Cypress Lake football program, be prepared for a different kind of spring football season and summer practices than what you experienced before. Buy into your new coaches' program. He will be a professional. Commit to observing good sportsmanship at all times.

Now that we've paved the way for turning the football program around, how about organizing the school library?
