Good idea but who would pay for and maintain it? Same idea was proposed to have the schools champions from all sports (and runner-ups) posted in the gym on bannners but due to the amount of vandalism and that takes place on campus daily, what would have started off as a good idea would end up being something that will end up being another expense. Maybe the alumni could start a fund to induct players into the banning hall of fame, similiar to what Poly established 2 years ago.

Wow..I got caught-up in PILOT SPIRIT's idea I forgot about "vandalism" and all the other negative vices that go on in today's society. Thanks for the reality check, Reality Check! Gees. What's the world coming to?

1981 Starting backfield (Championship team)
QB Mike Van Langfeld (soph. Ronnie Barber backup QB and holder on kicking team)
FB Mike Alo
TB Danny Andrews
1982 Starting QB Ronnie Barber NO championship
1983 Starting QB Ronnie Barber NO championship
Not a problem with the mistake, I have known the Barber family very well going back to his days at Banning. By the way, Ronnie Barber's mom still works at the pacific diner in san pedro, hey pilot fans go by sometime and say hello...
By the way Ronnie Barber was a very solid QB at Banning, I just thought it was unfair to Mike Van Langfeld who was the starting QB the entire year in 1981 and guided the pilots to their 6th championship in a row of course with the help of Alo and Andrews and the rest of the pilots that year....

1980-81 Van Langfeld QB Championship
1981-82 Barber QB NO Championship
1982-83 Barber QB NO Championship
1983-84 Holloway QB Championship)
1984-85 Holloway QB (Championship

My bad on the above post I listed the spring graduation year and not the fall football year, but the rest is accurate!

We should not give up on the Championship Banners and player numbers. I mean we have the memories to live with. However the kids at Banning don't fully understand the magnitude of those years and how they laid the ground work for the Band/Drills/Cheers and the fan loyalty. I think when the kids see the championship banners and maybe parents who did live here during those years will feel the pride of a winning tradition. It also will let visiting teams see our winning tradition. My voice is to soft but I'm sure their are others out there who can speak for this and get it rolling. Banning football has been a part of my life and will be forever. I would participate in helping to get this project going! ONCE A PILOT ALWAYS A PILOT! I'm typing from my phone so I apologize if some parts are fragmented.

That is a reality we have to live with, although maybe some type of flags, banners or
shields that can be put up and taken down at every home game might be an option.

Hey, here's an idea on the "Hall of Fame" for the former Banning players. Have girls from the drill team or flag girls hold flags with the names of the Hall of Famers as they march !!! They will always be on our minds and never forgotten. This would be such an honor and continue to grow as the years go bye. What do you guys think !

RSHARBOR that's a damn good idea! OMG I love it. Banning pride is running through me. I do have an idea as well, how about banners being rolled down the side of the school which faces the field directly behind the stands. Big long ones between the windows. It would habe the championships years in white large bold letters, Banning red background with black trim piping! It would be rolled out only during out during games. If I had the money I would do it myself. I'm serious does anyone know who ca get this started. Boosters don't exist anymore right? ONCE A PILOT ALWAYS A PILOT!

I do agree with you...It seems like Tradition among the new generation is not respected. It the history of those who came/played before that in some way defines who the school is. The new generation of kids say tradition is old fashioned...I always answer with " well then lets not celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving, the 4th of July because those too are also traditions!" I hope that you can inspire the youth to support your idea of a "hall of fame idea!" Good Luck your booster club and Alumni assoc. should help you!

Are you kidding me? Narbonne lost to Banning! Great job Banning. That old mystique comes out punching every now and then! I thought Narbonne was supposed to be good. They won the city championship last year didn't they?

That was in 1981, on week of the city final against Carson. Then, the sophomore quarterback Lee Atencio, from the BEE squad, replaced him. Guess what? Banning defeated Carson 21-14 to win its sixth straight 4A city title.

RONNIE BARBER JR.,PLAYED IN ONE L A CITY CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THE BANNING PILOTS AS A 10 GRADE BACK UP OR 2ND STRING QB.HIS JR.YEAR HE PLAYED THE 1981 SEASON BUT DID NOT PLAY IN THE CITY CHAMPIONSHIP BECAUSE OF A SUSPENSION FROM SCHOOL.LEE ANTICIO,WAS BROUGHT UP FREE THE B TEAM TO LEAD THE PILOTS THROUGH THE PLAY-OFFS AND THEN TO A VICTORY OVER CARSON HIGH IN THE LA CITY CHAMPIONSHIP.RONNIE .RETURNED TO BANNING HIGH HIS SENIOR YEAR .WE DEFEATED BY CRENSHAW ON A BULLSHIT CALL ON THE GOAL LINE THAQT GAVE CRENSHAW THE VICTORY.SO NO RONNIE BARBER JR.NEVER STARTED AND WON A CITY CHAMPIONSHIP BUT HE STILL GOE'S DOWN AS ONE OF BANNINGS GREATEST QB'S.HOW DO I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE WE WERE ON VARSITY TOGETHER AT BASNNING ALL THREE YEARS.I WAS HIS TEAM MATE.

Another footnote is Ronnie was the starting guard rather that the back up on the varsity BB team his senior year and hit the winning shot with no time remaining to beat Crenshaw in the city championship game ...
