I don't know the logistics behind what happened but to fire Coach Taylor was a dumb move in my opinion. He has consistantly led his teams deep into post season, including an opportunity to play for the State 6A Championship.

Best of everything to you Coach Taylor, you'll be an asset to whatever program you coach for in the future.

It was definitely the right decision. Taylor was no good for the program or the boys. Has too many personal issues. Not getting kids in college. Caught up in the hype of perks. Good job Mr. Marlow! Get someone in there that will be for the kids and carry on Deerfield winning tradition. They won before Taylor and will win without him.

ok I was the first to write in and my comment is gone now. I guess there are certain people out there that didnt like the questions I asked. What exactly is the real story? I know what happened only involved two people not getting along. I would like Mr. Tozzi and Mr. Marlow to come clean about the real reason. Anyone who has spent anytime at DBHS knows that Tozzi is the one who makes the decisions. Not Marlow.

Its fitting... He got the job under shady circumstances so its only fitting that he exit in the same way... Live by die by... His resume will land him another job quickly just wont be enough to keep the one he stole. LOL

Tozzi is the one who needs to go. That fat cow was not only a terrible coach, but he's a worse AD.

The only surprise is that slob hasn't died of a heart attack yet. Talk about an influence on kids, no wonder there are so many overweight teenagers. Oh, and his secret spaghetti receipte is terrible, it should remain a secret.

I was under the impression that Steve Faigan was looked at to be Head Coach before Taylor.

There was a need for a change. As a coach, he never got the best out of those kids. I saw them play hard one gam, and that was against Northwestern, but strength and conditioning was lacking big time at that point. The players are not tough any more. My other problem is that there isn't any BUCK PRIDE anymore. The next hire needs to be a Deerfield Beach Buck from the past, either player or coach. The booster club shoul reach out and give Kevin Sullivan a call, and pay him an additional salary. He was the coach that resurrected the program and got kids into school.

It's unfortunate that Coach Taylor was fired and an extreme consequence. However, the focus should be on the kids that make up that team. Here's a big problem for the team - with or without Coach Taylor....PARENTAL AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT. It is only a few parents that help out...they know who they are. There are those parents who won't even donate for parking at a game...shame on them! Monies earned help to feed their children before a game.....And what about the educators and school board members who flash their badges and act like they are special who also don't support...crying about a nominal donation for parking....WOW! SHAME ON THEM! Hopefully Principal Marlow can put a stop to that selfishness. It is a donation to support YOUR team! Sick and tired of people with the mentality of 'GIVE ME, GIVE ME, GIVE ME and WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME?" Let's not leave out the Community leaders...where are you business and civic leaders? Not to mention alumni's? Don't see you supporting the team. Where are the people who voted for Obama? It is his personal appeal that this world band together and serve their community. Ha! Now that's a challenge that I doubt this community will take up! If you don't like what's being said...do something about it. Make a difference to these kids. I know people will say that it is the schools responsibilty to provide for the team, however, we all know that schools budgets are also being cut. Take a close look at the program...sad and tired looking uniforms for both players and cheerleaders. What about the equipment? Come on people....look at other teams... Boyd Anderson, Ely...they look sharp...they have tremendous support. They have PRIDE! Where is BUCK PRIDE? People can talk all they like, but actions speak louder than words. And another thing, people (adults and children) have to accept personal responsibility...you want something?...Do something about it...work for it...strive for it...don't just put your hand out! So, the challenge is out there...DBHS was TOP 10 IN THE NATION!....and COMMUNITY, BUSINESS, AND CIVIC LEADERS... AND PARENTS, EDUCATORS WHERE IS YOUR PRIDE? This challenge isn't for those individuals who help out....they know who they are. And for the individual who spouted racism...grow up. Take a look at our new president...maybe you'll follow in his footsteps...and don't forget he's half caucasian. To Coach Taylor...Hope everything works out for you. God has a plan and only He knows what is.

Don't you live in GA??? I guess the Atlanta Journal doesn't have interesting articles. FYI..BA and ELY might look sharp on the outside, but they are "F" schools. Deerfield has come a long way in academics and sports. They are not a superintendent school like Ely and BA. Are you making an effort to support the school? Are you collecting money for parking at the games? Are you president of any booster club? Yes, School employees should get in the games for free. They work for the school and they are supporting their students.

I was on the team from 05 til 07.I was on the team that lost to Northwestern last year
iI knew coach Taylor and Tozzy well since i had 2 classes with Tozzy and was coached by Taylor for years.Hes a good coach but never realy helped us getting into college...except for his favorite players. But that wasnt the reason he got fired. He got fired because he STOLE MONEY FROM THE BOOSTER CLUB!!! we diserve better then that.I could not believe when i heard that was why he got fired since he was always the one getting on us to raise money for the team.he diserved to be fired

I read in the Deerfield Beach Observer last week how Coach Taylor helped all of these kids with their academics and with getting into college. What confuses me is this: You have a program that has some of the premier athletes in the nation, gets "deep" into the playoffs virtually every year, NEVER has a losing record... yet they had only 3 signees yesterday.

The two that signed with Michigan (Robinson and Witty) certainly didn't need coach Taylor to push their names to get in. And the third signed with a JC. Last years team that lost to National Champion Miami NW in the final seconds had one kid (an all-stater) sign with FAMU, and another kid get a last minute scholarship to Jacksonville University ("Coach" had nothing to do with that one for sure).

I see programs in the paper with inferior teams and inferior athletes with multiple signees (ie Hallandale, Northeast, Stranahan - not to take anything away from these schools). We know that the players aren't the problem because Deerfield is very good EVERY year. Therefore, it has to be the coach and/or the program overall.

Taylor did nothing for these kids. Instead, he tried to use his premier athletes (Denard Robinson for sure) as a platform for himself. He is pompous and self indulgent. I am just happy that Mr. Marlow was finally able to see through his act.

the coach at Northeast got my son a scholarship, and he is very good at getting the players offers.

If Deerfield does not grab him , they are crazy! It will be loss for Northeast for sure

Where is Taylor going? The boys liked him as well.

Taylor's at Zion Lutheran now. Supposedly he's happy there. But the boys are happy wit Ratkevich here so all is good now.

The stuff that all went down is fd up but everyones gettin a new start. I dont really care though as long as next years team is bomb and these boys actually get to play and get recognized like they should. And that they ALL get into decent colleges.

I reside in NC, Coach Taylor gave me my first coaching job in 1999, I very much thank him for that because I have been a very positive person in so many kids throughout my coaching career. There is a reason why he cannot teach or coach in Miami Dade County Public Schools, is not good at all. A few people know this and he also ended the career of one of my coaches/mentors. MDCPS has kept this under the rug. Maybe something like that happened at Deerfield. He also shaved yards from a FB and added them to a RB. A few coaches know this. He did a lot of stuff that he thought he could because of his status as a head coach. Former players talked, former coaches talked, and little by little things were revealed.
