Maybe he'll play his best players unlike Shaw who catered to the Sophmores to keep them from staying JV.

How good will he be when he won't be able to recruit? I'm sure he'll find a way to "find" the best talent in the "area".

Congrats Coach and the Montebello football community. I saw Coach G at SPHS and always felt his guys were hard working, hit hard and they won a CIF Title.

I don't know Coach personally but I wish him and his staff well

to be honest there is one thing wrong with this article and the truth is that coach pete never led anyone anywhere. It should be more like the class of 08 who took him to the semifinals as juniors and got him the ring their senior year.

Not a big surprise that Pete Gonzalez got the job at Montebello. The principal has to make a move before he retires in the next few years. That program has been an embarrassment for the Oiler faithful the last few years. Coach Shaw wasn't the problem it was hiring inept coaches as assistants. Montebello has a good pool of available talent, but the players have shown little interest in the program and some of those players do not have much class. Hopefully someone can restore some pride there. I'm sure Pete will "bring in" the right coaches and the right kids. Maybe they can finally beat Schurr, it's been a few years.

MHS has not been out recruited these past few years, they've been OUT COACHED and OUT PLAYED by better Schurr coaches and players.

Of course coach Shaw was the problem he was the one that hired those inept coaches and got rid of some great coaches like CIF running back Johny Macias!!!!!
