Mr. Perkison was my PE teacher years ago. I do not think he should be fired or dismissed from his job over one DUI. The DUI was not during school hours. How many men in Meigs County have a few to many after work. Not to say it is right to drink and drive, but why judge him so harshly when people need to look at their own life first

I can not understand why they would make a big deal out of something like this either. There is so much going on in Meigs County that is really much worse than a poor school teacher having one too many. If they want to set examples of how they are going to clean things up...start with their joke of a sheriff and law enforcement in general. Meth labs, robberies, etc it is so bad in that county!

1st of all he was my teacher too, and he used 2 live nearby. As I recall this is not the 1st time he has had a problem with alcohol on the roads. It may be the 1st time he is charged or got caught but come on those who know him know this is not his 1st "incident". And to answer why judge him, are you serious? He is supposed to be teaching a class on how to drive, what to do and what not to do! Very good example for our young impressionable teens!
To the poor delusioned person above from Chattanooga. Our Sheriff and law enforcement are a joke? Not so much, really, its just that we are so small over here that when we have 1 or 2 bad ones it seems like a realllly big deal. But honestly the last time I was in Chattanooga, the store i was in got robbed right before i walked in. So I had seen the perp run out, when the cops arrived they did not question anyone but the clerk, and they gave her the 3rd degree. I never did hear about that robbery on the news. I had even offered info to the cops and they said I was not needed and to but out! So who's the pot calling the kettle black?

I graduated from Meigs in 07. Sam was my drivers ed teacher my Jr yr. he hardly ever showed up to class and if he did we would have to drive to his house so he could feed his dogs and stuff. i think its stupid to let him get away with this. if his wife didnt work 4 the school system he would have lost his job. he has a wife & 2 pretty lil girls. he should be home with them not drunk on the roads on sunday night. and i agree this isnt the frist time its just the first time they actually arrested him. they werent even going to arrest him until the property owner where the wreck happened demanded he go to jail.

Meigs Gal you did misunderstand my point!
There are many things going on in Meigs County, tons of thiefts, us being one of them.
Nothing is ever said about how bad it is with Meth Labs everywhere and working folks being robbed, and God knows what else.
This teacher is just another example of how bad the county is.
I agree he is suppose to set an example but if you let him get away with it why should he stop.
Same thing with all the other stuff going on up there. The Sheriff looks the other way!

Does everyone that work at shaw lose their jobs when they get a dui? I do understand that being a driver's ed teacher and coach he is held to higher standards, but everyone makes mistakes. Im sure the man is sorry and regrets his actions and he will pay his debt to society. Im not defending Mr. Perkinson in any way, he screwed up and he will pay the price. To 07 grad, were you there that night? How do you know that the police wasn't going to arrest him? Im sure you heard that from someone who heard it from someone else. Didnt your momma tell you that is how false rumors get started? And when did property owner's start making decisions on who goes to jail and tell the police who to arrest? heck if that was the case the jail would be way overcrowded.I appreciate the police and sheriff's department. They do a great job with what they have. It is a small department in a small county with a small budget that is understaffed. If so many people have a problem with Meigs, what is keeping them here, why don't they move? Just a few thoughts.

no sympathy here

lulz at the hypocrites defending him especially with the bible verses.

dui is the same as waving a gun around with your finger on the trigger. sure, you might not shoot someone, but you're risking everyone's health needlessly.

ok just to clear a couple of things up on this subject. mr. perkinson needs to be punish for his actions because as a student at his school we all look up to him. he was my drivers ed teacher when i was a sophomore and my wellness class. and i know for a fact that he his not a goodie good guy because i know of "things" he does while at school and its not good for the students and just to let you guys know he got his job back and is still working at the same school. oh and the person from chattanooga you need to check on your own police force because they must not be to good cause everytime i go there i see crack dealers on the street and i know i dont see them here cause our sheriff is a wonderful hard working man who works hard at his job. so leave him along!

meigs co has never had a fair sheriff and kickman is even close to the first. as far as sammy perkinson i went to school with him and to this day he still does the same things that he did then drug test the man and you will see what i mean he shouldnt be allowed around a high school.
i was raised in this county and the police have select few they arrest and the rest is ok if you ever cross them you are in bad shape. there deputies are barely smart enough to have graduated school and i know one that didnt ... i know them all and they are all just short of jail themselves when you drive by the sheriffs farm and see him driving his brand new patrol car thru the field checking on cattle you wonder why are we paying taxes here to supply him a farm vehicle
FBI should finish there investigation and lock them all up

the sheriff doesn't check on his cows in his police car he has hired workers that do that for him so you don't know nothing about him.

I believe that he should not be at my childrens school teaching or even being around them. This is a teacher that is suppose to teaching our children healthy living and the laws of driving a vehicle in our community. But like everyone has said above, you do not get on the wrong side of our Sherrif's, or higher up people in the community, we do live in the south and their is alot of them that turn their heads and don't do their jobs properly, including our board of education....it's a joke. If you stand up to these people, it will bite you in the butt in the long run. And it is true about our sherrif driving his county car in his fields to check his cows, I have seen it with my own eyes, the lack of respect to the people that do pay taxes in this county that pays all of their wages is insane. But it will bite them all where it hurts in the long run.

The whole thing is that people are so clueless and just don't care so when elections come along....they vote but just see a familiar name and that's what they do....not even half of our community pay attention to the issues....you can't blame all the officials but it's a shame that one of the most caring sherriff's we had sold his home and transfered to a different county to be a sherriff in...he was a friend of mine...and left just because he didn't want to be involved in this mess that sooner or later the TBI is going to lay down on this county sooner or later it wil come out, but by that time, it's going to be on a lot of peoples losses. Also until people start speaking out, the corruption is never going to stop, and it damages our property values, and community. With Volkswagon coming in just south of us, this issue needs to be fixed, that alone should help the value of our investments in this community, but if things don't change, in the next 10 years this city of Decatur will be a ghost town, cause anyone with some smarts will be leaving, I am in the process right now.
