My friend and I recently returned from a vacation in South Beach, Miami and erupted in an itchy rash primarily on our arms and shoulders. It was also present, yet not as severe, on our legs, knees, and feet. After going to the doctor, we were both prescribed pretnasone. After reading about the drug, I decided not to take it. My friend just finished her prescription.

It is 10 days later and the rash has changed and is now centralized on my elbows, lower arms and hands. There are still residual bumps on the upper arm and shoulder area, but they no longer itch. The newer bumps on my lower arms itch terribly. My friend's bumps have also lessened in severity, but after finishing her medication, we are in about the same place.

I have researched all possible causes, and can not figure it out. I have looked extensively at scabies, sea swimmers eruption, rat mites, and bed bug bites. The symptoms and appearance of my rash just doesn't match anything I have found.

-a few appeared on feet and legs in Miami, but over a hundred appeared on arms about three days after we got home
-they are on the outer elbow but not the inner
-the bumps are now on my hands and fingers...but not in the webs
-they are scattered and in some places appear in clusters and rows of 2, 3, and 5
-they started appearing on upper arms and shoulders and over the course of 10 days have moved to lower arms. Upper arms are scarred but no longer itchy. lower arms, wrists, and hands still itchy
-worse at night
-heat agitates the itching

What the heck is it and how do I make it stop?

I have a very similiar thing and am going to the doctor today. It is driving me crazy and at this point I'm not sure where I got it. I thought in our yard weeding a week ago, but now it has gotten so bad and is spreading so it is making me doubt where I got it. Did you find out what yours was, and how long did it take to go away? Please say it is gone now.

I have what looks like bug bites started on my shoulder about 4 years ago, I thought they were just bug bites, they went away. But came back again and eventually spread to my whole arm, only on the front side. The "bites" come and go, itch intensly at times and seem to be aggravated by heat. 4 Years and a dermatologist can not figure this out. Does anyone have an idea of what this may be??

My 11 year old granddaughter and I have developed a condition that seems just like the one from Miami. We had been walking a creek bed in Estill County Kentucky. She began developing the skin condition on day #5 after being in the water and playing at a clay wall making mud masks. I developed it on day #7. Four doctor's have seeen my granddaughter and do not recognize the culprit. Do you think it is "swimmer's itch?

I believe that it is swimmer's itch. This is the second time I have gotten it. First time, no doctor's could figure out what I had. It lasted for about two months. I know realized that is because I itched the bumps and got them infected so it turned into impetigo. I also gave the bumps to my boyfriend at the time. I just went into the Russian River in Ca. and now have the same bumps on the front of my arms
and neck area. This time I am not going to itch them and hope they will go away in a week or so.
What a nightmare...I hate this.

Voltaren emulgel. It is amazing with any inflammatory skin problems, go to your chemist. It also stops itching as soon as you put it on. great for any bites or itchy rash.

I have the same problem. At first thought it was Scabies, so I used Diatomaceous Earth, Food Grade aka DE, internally which seemed to help, I also mixed DE with Grapeseed oil and applied it to the areas. That seems to help too. Next the rash seemed to resemble a bed bugs infection...which DE would treat too. Then I seemed to develop poison ivy which Prednisone didnt help. Now I am not really sure what it is, all I know it itches like poison ivy and looks like poison ivy. One day it seems to dry up a little then the next its itching again. The only relief I get is to take a shower in the hottest water I can stand. That opens the pores and really shows where the rash is.

Another possible culprit I thought of was pet dander. the wiener dog loves to curl up in the bend of my legs when he sleeps, that's where the rash started....i'm at loss for a solution. Not sure if a dermatologist is a waste of time and money.

I'm in northern Calfiornia. It started about a month ago: recurring mystery bites mostly on my upper arms, often in clusters of two or three, that itch fiercely. First I thought it was house spiders, mosquitos, or bedbugs (which I've never had before) but with bedbugs my Dr. says the bites are not confined to the upper arms, as they are in my case. What's really irritating is that as one cluster of bites heals, a new one will appear, and it can be on either arm; the upper arm. Started a month ago and it's now interfering with my life. Sure hope this stops soon. I've lived in the same place for over 15 years and never had this.

I found out what my itching is...Yeast Infection. I am a 31 year old male, yes, guys can get it too! Go to pharmacy and get AZO Yeast (OverTheCounter) and diaper rash cream {it has the most zinc oxide in it} After a day on AZO and using Diaper Rash Cream (ointment) my itching has reduced by half and the hot showers are not necessary anymore. I was shocked it was a yeast infection, but AZO and diaper rash ointment REALLY helps. It is worth a try.

AZO is under $6 and diaper rash ointment around $4.

The ointment is thick is use it at night and Bacitracin during the day, it is clear and less noticeable.

Congrats, Ted. Well, I found out what mine was, too--and I feel stupid. It's hives, an allergic reaction to drinking whole milk. I hadn't drunk whole milk in years, but started again because I'm lifting weights. Only whole milk does it to me, not other diary products. When I quit, the hives stopped in a few days. But while they were active. hydrocortisone cream seemed to sooth the itch, which was fierce.

Scratching Bob,

I am back to thinking it is Scabies. Ive read that Scabies mite likes yeast hence the thinking it was a Yeast Infection. The AZO did take pain away, and maybe I did have a Yeast Infection. So I'm back to treating it like Scabies which is a very long process.

Concerning your milk intake, their is a milk that is really good for you and doesn't hurt the digestive system. Sweet Acidophilus. I wasn't a big milk drinker, only with cereal, now i drink Acidophilus daily!! I can only find it in Kroger stores. We have Marsh and Save A Lot and they do not carry it. It is sold in half gallons here in Indiana. I am not sure if CA has a Kroger, some states do not, but have a chain of our stores ie. Dillons, Frys, King Soopers, City Market.

Just a thought!

I have had this rash since just after the summer, It starts as a burning pin prick and then an intense itch, I have been looking on the net and it sounds very like a form of prickly heat which only comes out some weeks after exposure to the sun. Which in my case would explain the timing.

It was the strangest thing! One minute i was talking to my mom and making dinner as always when all of a sudden i had this urge to itch my arm. I looked down to see why and there was a rash looking thing that symbolized a bracelet because it went all the way around. It's not a big rash but i was doing some research online and found that their are far worse cases of this and i'm scared that it will get worse so i put this special kind of lotion on the rash and took and allergy pill but its not working! It still itches like crazy!

I am 25 years old and have had eczema since I was a child! It goes and come as it pleases, as its one of "those" types of conditions. However sometime last week, I noticed some bumps in the usual places my eczema usually bothers me in, the foldable areas, armpits and back of the knees. It got worse over the course of a couple days and the bumps enlargened and started excreting some sort of yellow fluid.
Also a couple days following the outbreak my face broke out also. I have always had perfect skin, never acne or any bumps. Even my eye lids got scaly. Now my face is just extremely dry and scaly, but it seems that it is going away on its on.
I am writing this for this reason. The areas where I usually have my eczema outbreaks, have completely cleared up, with the use of hydrocortizone. However, now I have these extremely itching small bumps that are spreading on my upper arm and lower arm on both my arms. There are also some on my lower stomach.
They itch ten times worse then my eczema ever does! Whatever it is seems to be going as it is coming but I will be damned if it isn't giving me a run for my money! I have looked into scabbies, but there don't seem to be any clear definitions as to what scabbies looks like. The only reoccurring symptom seems to be that the itching gets worse at night! I know from my past with eczema any kind of rash itches worse at night because your body temperature rises, and if it is in a moist area its going to ruin your sleeping chances. If anyone has any ideas let me know! I have made an appointment with a dermatologist for the 19th, but I dont think I am going to last that long!
