My son is 19 and had had horrible sore throats since he was tiny. Over the past year, he's been able to pick small balls out of his tonsils, leaving big craters, so i Googled this and found tonsil stones.
After watching a video about them, I couldn't believe it.
Today I woke up with a sore throat, and looked in the mirror and saw a huge white spot on my left tonsil.
I poked it with a Q-Tip and this enormous whitish-gray hard chunk came out. It was about 2 cm across and pretty heavy!
It smelled even worse, like the worst halitosis you could imagine!
I NEVER thought it could happen to me!
HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A TONSIL STONE?
Just wondering...never knew anything about them until about a month ago...and NO doctor i ever took my son to, even all those ENTs never knew anything about them, either!

I have had these "tonsil stones" before...never knew what they were called. I got my first one in highschool in the middle of class and you are right they smell horrible if broken. I dont think they create a crater in your tonsil I think they just form in one. I have ask around and people think that it is just a bacterial build up or loose food that has been gathered then basically continuously rubbed into a ball then makes its way to the surface "aka" your mouth. Not for sure but it kind of makes sense. Hope this helps
