"Tillerson doesnít say there is no problem. He says itís just not an insurmountable problem. The reason we get so panicked about it, he says, is because the public is illiterate in science and mathematics, the press is lazy, and there are advocacy groups that raise their funds by scaring the illiterate public."

Chief among them was Exxon. And now they are just trying to 'cash in' on public funds for a problem caused by THEIR campaign of denial.

And no. Technology cannot give us a 'quick fix'. It will require a move away from fossil fuels and conspicuous consumption to energy efficiency and recycling. A moved that is NOT going to be championed by Exxon.

1990: "There is no global warming".

2000: "Okay, there's global warming, but not due to humans".

2012: "Okay, humans are causing global warming, but a little global warming never hurt anyone".

2020: "Okay, our cooking of the climate is costing a freakin' fortune, but who really needed the Maldives, and life in the drought regions could be worse..."
